I am 21 years old and about a year ago I went to the eye doctor for halos I was seeing around lights. The doc was shocked that a person my age would have these kind of eye pressures. He put me on xlatan but everyday I obsess that I am going to go blind. Does anyone have any insight about this condition? If the pressures stay in noraml range is there still danger to my vision?
Thanks (im new here) Posted on 10/09/07, 06:10 pm |

Hi Mike. I can understand your concern, I am much older than you and I was terrified also. Its my understanding as long as you use your eye drops, and continue to see your doctore for check ups you will be fine.

Hi Mike: I'm very much tuned into how you feel. My daughter and I have glaucoma. She recently lost her sight, abruptly, after having glaucoma for 7 years, and I was diagnosed 11 years ago, but can still see, thanks to using timoptic eye drops, for 11 years, and now lumigan starting 7 months ago. I know how stressful you feel. My daughter and I started doing as much research as possible, on medications, equipment, etc. As for me personally, I'm terrified as well for myself, because my husband is paralyzed, and bed-ridden 3/4 of the time, and I'm only caregiver. I realize that if I lost my sight, there would be no one to be there in our home for us. BUT!!! You must never give up the faith. Its been 11 years, and I've kept the faith of never going totally blind. As of today, my vision is 20/20 with my glasses on. Hang in there. Never give up, mike. God bless you.

I'm new to. I was "diagnosed" with glaucoma about 2 yrs ago. They have me coming in every 6 months to have my retinas checked on to see if there is any difference in my retinas or if I was born with them looking this way.
I have been told there is no way to stop glaucoma but it can be slowed down with proper treatment. Go to your Doctor appointments and medicate properly as the doctor prescribes and most of all, hang in there. ~R~

I am also much older but I am also scared of totally losing my sight. I am legally blind in my right eye now. I would recommend that you see a doctor that specializes in Glaucoma because they have a better knowledge of what needs to be done. In the town where I live we didn't have a specialist in Glaucoma but when I saw the specialist he told me that he could have saved my sight if he had seen 2 years before.
Take your drops and do everything that they tell you and you should be alright.

Hi Mike,
I hope you're doing better? It is a shock to find out something like this. My pressures have stayed within 'normal range' for some 20 yrs. and I hope to keep my vision....if I look on the 'positive' side this has helped me to give up smoking, and alcohol and lead a healthier life style...It didn't happen all at once, but it did happen....hang in there!

first, relax, i was diagnosed sometime back in high school and the doctors too were surprised about my age and diagnosis. they dont know what caused it in me and tried surgery. i was unresponsive to the surgery and have been depending on eye drops ever since. my pressure fluctuates but if it makes you feel better, when they first found mine it was over 40 in each eye. (i am almost 21 myself). just as long as you keep your pressure under control, you will be fine. there is no need to worry about going blind. keep with the regular check ups and nerve pictures and you should be fine. maybe even a simple laser treatment would work? you will be fine, you just have to make the eye drops a natural thing for you.

Yes there is still danger to your vision not to mention your wallet. The drops only treat the symtoms but there is a cure. Contact me if you would like the information. I am not looking for any money and all you have to do is pick up a few items at the grocery store.

I was diagnosed about six weeks ago. I am seeing a glaucoma specialist, getting my eye pressures checked, and using nightly eyedrops. There is no cure for glaucoma, but it can be controlled. The object is to prevent damage to the optic nerve by keeping eye pressures down. Just follow along with your specialist and be sure to use the eyedrops and keep your appointment for pressure checks. As mentioned, there is also a simple laser treatment available if necessary.
