My horrible doctor!

Had my 1st appt with the gastroenterologist today. And despite the fact that I've been having symptoms for 6 months now, and despite the fact that I was referred by my family doctor, he didn't even take me seriously!!!! He didn't ask any questions about my history with this illness, didn't ask about my current symptoms or eating habits. Didn't want to know where it hurt or how bad or what the pain felt like, didn't want to know about the changes in my eating habits. Didn't care if my zegerid was working, or even what dose I'm taking. NOPE!! He found out I have anxiety disorder, and saw that I'm underweight - so apparently I'm either a hypochondriac or I have an eating disorder!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!?! I'm so incredibly angry right now. He scheduled a couple tests as an afterthought, but I could tell he didn't actually think that I have any physical problem... well except for this imaginary eating disorder. I tried to tell him that I'm naturally underweight anyway, and that my recent significant weight loss is BECAUSE of the stomach issues, not the cause of them. But he didn't want to hear it. Everything I said was in one ear and out the other. He said that it couldn't be gastritis or ulcers because "medication would take care of the symptoms right away." Well, after I finally got on zegerid, the symptoms DID improve! Significantly! And I had just told him that!! And anyway, my family doctor seemed pretty convinced of the diagnosis.
I called my family doctor and told them I never wanted to see that man again, and I requested my husband's gastroenterologist. I'm so frustrated... I waited 3 months for that appt! Now I have to wait another 3! So that's my doctor experience. I'm insulted that he'd even act that way toward me, like I'm some attention-seeking hypochondriac. Maybe if he'd actually asked some questions, he'd have seen that this is a physical illness, not some made-up one. Well I'm off to get ready for class. Hope everyone else is having a good week! I can feel your pain...and understand those frustrations...try to stay calm...getting upset does not help tummy at all! Smart of you to seek another doctor...but don't wait for 3 mos., they are not all that way...find a GI Specialist in your area...be diplomatic on the phone call to his scheduling nurse and explain that you are in a lot of pain and need to see someone immediately...they will usually fit you in...NEVER GIVE UP! KEEP THE FAITH!

Hi!
I understand exactly what you're feeling! I also had that kind of a terrible doctor... He told me when I first met him that it was all stress and that I should eat more healthy and work out more. Luckily for me he DID order some tests and those told me I had celiac disease, so the stomach and bowel problems did have a physical cause... Just to tell you: make sure ALL possible physical causes of your symptoms are examined, and if nothing comes out, only then the doctor has the right to say it's all in your head!
