I have a question I haven't seen much discussion about here: When does the weight loss stop or when does your weight stabilize?
I've lost 80 lbs and have 45 to go to reach my goal of 145 lbs. At this point I'm 5 months post-op and the weight loss has slowed some, but is still steady. People are starting to ask me about maintenance and I simply don't know the answer. Any words of wisdom? Posted on 07/25/08, 09:07 am |

This sounds like the perfect guestion, I am looking forward to reading some of the responses. I know that my dr stated that about 6mos you start to slow down but the wt loss is still steady but slow. I am 7mos and I am 92 lbs down and would love to meet my full goal by my 1 yr mark and I have 44 lbs to go.
Lots of Hugs :) Estelle

My doctor and his staff have said to expect weight loss for up to 18 months. I'm 6 months out and have lost 90 lbs so only time will tell.

I was told that I should reach my optimum weight loss within 18 months to 2 years.

I think it may depend also on how much you have to lose. I only lost 80, but started at 220. According to my docs, I was at my goal (cholesterol)- so, I cant tell you. I am 10 months out- but I am also 14 weeks pregnant- so, my weight loss is a little screwed up.

I started at 244 It is about 14.5 months out and I have lost down to 109. I am still losing but it is in the amount of ounces. Very very slow I really do not want to lose more, but I probably will because I am now just starting to really do exercise daily. I would say you lose for sure up to a year, but honestly everyone will be different in the amount of weight they lose because of medical conditions, exercise they do, the size of the pouch the surgeon makes, how much you weighed before, and how much you need to lose based on the size of your bone structure. I have a very small bone structure. I am wearing size 4 clothes right now and some are to big.

Well I was told 18 months to 2 years...I lost my weight in about 13 months and i've been stable since...I fluctuate about 5 lbs up and down now, so if that remains the same I'm happy. Oh and I'm at goal, I know quite a few ladies who never made it to goal.....
