" I was terrified that I was going to die during surgery and this was a HUGE decision for me to make. I even postponed a few doctors appointments to make sure it was right for me.

Take time and know that you researched as much as you could to the best of your ability and the right decision will come to you.

Good luck! "

" I think it's normal to have fear of the unkown. Even AFTER I made my decision to do the surgery, I still had the fear. I think I finally figured that if I died, oh well....at least I died trying to do something about my weight. I wanted to write letters to each of my family memeber's telling them good bye - just in case I was the 1% that died having the surgery.....lol

It is a valid concern. It's a hard decision to make. Just keep researching and reading and maybe that will help you with your fears. "

" You should be scared as with any major surgery. I'm glad you are researching and learning there is alot of information out there to absorb and alot of people can give you advise and help you out. Youshould really make sure you are comfortable with your doctor that is the most important and if there are ever any questions or concerns make sure you take it up with them too...good luck on your decision. " Everyone feels nervous about surgery. It is a risk, but for me it was worth it because I felt so lousy that I didn't think I was going to live very long being so obese. Also remember you can't have the surgery without clearance from several doctors and at 26 you are young and stronger than me. I was 53 when I had my surgery. "

" But look how you are now...do you have co-morbities (diabetes, heart trouble, high bloodpressure?) You could be a ticking timebomb the way you are now. So, having this major surgery could EXTEND your life, by making you healthier. And yes, ANY surgery can have complications leading to death, but so does morbid obesity! The tradeoff of major surgery for a healthier body seems to make more sense to me. It must have, I am 2 years and almost 4 months post-op and 145 lbs. down. My husband was so impressed that he also had the surgery and has lost 40 lbs. pre-op and 100 lbs. since 1/24/08...the day he rebirthday by having gastric bypass. He feels like a new man and looks amazing. It's all about choices. "
