My dad has been gambling his whole life excessively. He has been doing it for almost 30 years now. Latley his gambling is just getting worse. Going to to casions almost all the time.Going to the race track. He doesnt believe he has a problem. Now its to the point that he is going to loose me as a daughter because im done putting up with the shit. He never changed for my mom and he wont change for me. There is no more point in putting effort into him anymore. There have been many times since i was lil that gambling comes before eating in my house. Cant go grocery shopping because he has to go gamble first and if he wins then we get to have grocies. Nothing gets through to him that he has a problem. What should i do?

I am on bothe side of the spectrum so to speak, my parents are boh compulsive gamblers.inparticular my dad, and I am also a compulsive gambler. Unfortuneatly there is nothing you can do to "change" him, he has to first recognize he has a problem and then he has to want to get help. I know how hard it is, we were in the same situation, if they won we got food if they didn't we ate beans until the next pay day.
I would suggest looking into a "GAM-ANON" support group in your area, many of the GA meetings also offer a GAM-ANON meeting at the same time, this is for family and friends of compulsive gamblers, you need to remember it's not your fault it's nothing you did or didn't do for that matter. Take care of yourself, move forward in your recovery. Your in my thoughts.
