New diagnosis, not in top 8

My three year old daughter was diagnosed at 7 months for severe tree nut and allergy to milk, wheat, and egg. She grew out of all but tree nut, but was diagnosed today with severe lentil, black bean, chickpea, peanut, green pea and beef. I am unsure how to proceed for two reasons, one is that many of those allergies are not top 8 allergies and are not listed on labels - has anyone out there dealt with these allergies and know what to look for? Reason two: we are vegetarian. I will have to start feeding her chicken to give her protein with all the bean and nut allergies, but she is afraid of eating new things, especially meat. Has anyone out there dealt with this before?

That is a very difficult situation- I wish you the best of luck.
Those are pretty straight forward allergies- as in I don't think there are tons of forms of each of those (unlike soy which comes in a million different forms and is used in much of processed foods). In case you haven't heard of them, there's the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) that can be a great resource: http://www.foodallergy.org/about.html Casseroles can be a good way to get kids to try new things because you can sneak them in- it's what my parents had to do with me when I was a kid.

FAAN is a good place to join up & there's a yahoo group called FASTERS that has a lot of nice people that can help you out as well. My son was diagnosed with milk, peanut & soy. Peas have been making him sick recently so they told me to avoid peas too for now. they have yet to test him for tree nuts. Most of the new foods you've listed are legumes & related to peanuts. Beef is not surprising due to all the weird stuff they do to meats these days.
If you're feeling creative, try to disguise the meat flavour. I cook meats in V8 juice & it seems to help with getting my son to eat it.

You have got to introduce your child to non vegeterian products. It is not healthy to be a vegeterian and you migh've caused some of the health problems your child has by not feeding her right. Kids need to have animal protein and fats to grow up healthy.
If you chose to be a vegetarian thats your personal choice , but do not make this choice for your kids! I don't even have an advice for you , sorry .... as soon as i've read you're brainwashing your kids i just got very upset...

You do NOT need to resort to feeding your child meat. She can get plenty of protein with a good trail mix, which you can make yourself and leave out the tree nuts. Sunflower seeds, poppyseeds, ground flaxseeds, pine nuts, coconut, pumpkin and other winter squash seeds, plus the tree nuts she's no longer reacting badly to, complete the proteins in the whole grains she's probably already eating. If she is not allergic to legumes other than the ones listed in your post, by all means feed her kidney, pink, Anasazi and navy beans.

With that many legumes on the list, I would avoid all legumes for her, personally. Quinoa is a protein. Coconut has lots of good fat (we use coconut milk and coconut oil, as well as coconut flour to increase the fiber in breads). How about fish instead of chicken? My kids love baked (or fried) salmon, salmon cakes, and different kinds of fried fish. I know a lot of vegetarians who do fish, but not chicken, pork, or beef. All foods must be listed on the ingredients label -- that's the law. Yes, they have to call out the allergens (in bold type or a separate listing) but all the ingredients are still there. I agree that there aren't many hidden words for those foods. It's not like corn -- xanthan gum, dextrose, maltodextrin, etc. Pretty much peas are peas. My son can't have peas. My daughter couldn't have any legumes, but now she got some of them back 18 months later. Neither of them can have lentils still. Just be careful about overloading her with soy (as vegetarians are prone to do). Soy is not as healthy as they claimed for so long, especially not the way Americans do soy. I have recipes on my blog, www.kathysrecipebox.com and you can search by allergen if you're looking for ideas.
