" I just typed into google "how to read a food label" and a bunch of sites came up. Here are the first three:

I have always been a label reader. For your basic salt example, first you need to see how many chips are in a serving size. Then you look down the list and find out how much salt is in a portion. My kids are currently on a Doritos kick, so I have a few bags on hand. Our bag of cool ranch states that a serving size is 1 ounce or about 12 chips. The sodium is 170 mg and 7% of the recommended daily intake. So, if they eat 24 chips, their sodium intake will be 340 mg or 14% of their daily allowance.

Hope this helps,

Robin "

" Thanks this helps out alot. I have to keep my soduim intake under 1,000mg a day so if im not carefull i can easyly go over real quick. I love doritos and cream cheese and cheese and these are high in salt.Thank you for the example that helps me out.I have to make my food from scratch.I did find a baking powder with no salt and found a site that has pickles with no salt. It's hard when you have to be careful with you sodium intake.Once again thank's "

" You're welcome!

Watching your salt intake takes practice. There are alot of products out there that are low in sodium though. That helps. My husband and I both watch our salt intake. OK, I watch both our salt intake :). Try to steer clear of processed and prepackaged foods. Watch your table salt usage. It becomes second nature when you get used to it. "
