Sometimes a reaction sometimes not!

I would like to know if anyone has had this experience... First a little history about my food allergies. I was diagnosed at 18 years old seem to have a reaction to just about everything. The allergies seemed to get better as I aged. I am 29 years old now and alot of them have improved. What has peaked my intrest now is that sometimes I eat a food I am allergic to with no problems then other times I will eat the food and have a slight to severe reaction! Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

" Hi and yes, this happens to me aldo. I used to be able to eat as much seafood and I wanted but now, I know I will suffer first with itching, rash and breathing issues. I still eat tuna (my sons makes a best) but it is about 2x in 3 months. I prepare myself ahead of time when I know he will be sending a sandwich my way. Some things are worth the suffering. So far, I have not had to use my Epipen because of the reaction. "

" yes... because the original disgnosis was wrong.

they thought I had a sugar problem, they thought maybe it was this or that...

well.. when I was 8, I suddenly had a reaction to seafood which is from idoidine. This also caused odd symptoms like thyroid problems because of the need for iodine in my body. This year I have learned to eat salt on my food to compensate.

Then... after 20 odd years of not knowing... my allergies changed they thought... no.. it was just not obvious. I am severely allergic to cirtic acid and citrus. This was an allergy that grew since I was 8, but changed to worsen over the years. It now gives me full blown vertigo and vomiting. The more they made my diet healthier with fruits, the worse I got. hmmmm...

so... allergies increase, but they are usually a combo effect.

like my allergy to latex is related to my allergies to bananas and avocados- same family or something.

and they worsen and grow if my nutrients are not right in the rest of my body. "

" It was the total inconsistency of my allergic reactions that kept me from suspecting food allergies. Once I got off everything I was allergic to, wow! I never knew how lousy I felt ALL THE TIME. "

" My daughters reaction to most of her allergies is very bad eczema. THere are many times when I know she has not had anything that she has allergies to and she will get a bad patch or worse over her whole body. Then other times I will catch one of her sisters giving her milk and nothing happens, ACH I just cant get a handle on it. Its frustrating for sure. I wish I had some insite but know that you are not alone. "

" I have a severe reaction to eggs. I can eat doughnuts and be ok but then I can eat something with eggs in it and I need my Twinject. My allergist told me it had something to do with the amount of egg per the rest of the ingredients. Sometimes my body doesn't recognize that I've ingested egg or egg product. Not sure why it happends or how it happens. "

" I think this has something to do with the amount of certain enzymes your body has to counteract the chemicals it reacts to. Lets say you smashed your finger with a hammer and you either "let it heal" or "smash it again".. it would probably get worse if you smashed it again. It could still get worse if you smashed it after letting it heal, but it probably wouldn't be near as bad as smashing it again right away. Certain enzymes in your body will build up over time and allow you to experience no reaction to a food sometimes. There could be other factors involved too. Some foods you could have eaten lately could have helped you too replete your enzymes levels faster too. This is just my little hypothesis :P "

" Yes I have had that happen.....I think it has to do with the season. Some fruits and veggies share the same DNA as trees and grasses and when they are in season is the time I will get reactions. I used to eat foods that I got mild reactions too but now I avoid them unless cooked. My allergies have worsened this year and I have asthma as well. After some recent scares with peanuts and fresh black pepper and a very serious episode with anaphylaxis from a med years ago I am now vigalant about protecting myself and carry epipen, benedryl and puffer with me at all times. Good luck to you :) "
