I was just wondering if anyone else remembers around when they started eating compulsively? I personally have pretty much done it all my life, although was didn't really have a weight problem until I got pregnant for my son. I was 18 then and the weight piled on! I did lose it about 4 years after I had him. I actually lost 80 in less than a year by pretty much starving myself, taking a diet pill that still had ephedra in it and having a job that required a lot of physical labor. But after I met my husband, (about 3 months after I had lost all the weight) I just gained it all back and more.
But I can remember being really young, like 4 or 5 and sneaking into food. Especially cereal. I loved cereal. I used to sneak downstairs at night and mix up cake mixes, or muffin mixes and eat the raw batter. I am really suprized that my mom didn't notice my behavior with food, but like I said, I didn't really have a weight problem. I remember one summer I stayed with my dad and he let me eat like brownies for supper and I lived on ice cream sandwhiches. That summer I did gain about 10 pounds but I lost it as soon as I went back home to mom. Neither of my parents are overweight, so it ain't like we ate a ton of food all of the time. I would con my brother out of food, sneak into his food that my dad would be for him on the weekends when we would go to visit, (we were allowed to pick out our own food). This all was going on the whole time I was growing up. When I got pregnant for my son I worked in a little coutry store all alone. There was a deli, we served ice cream, plus all of the other junk that a convient store offers. I ate soooooo much while I worked there. I gained 50 pounds during that pregnancy. Imagine my suprize when I gave birth 2 months early to a 2 pound baby. Yeah, out of 50 of weight gain only 2 of it went to the baby! So anyway, I was just wondering if anyone's life sounds similar to mine? Mandy Posted on 05/15/08, 03:05 pm |

Hi Mandy, I can relate to your story so much. I remember sneaking spoonfuls of sugar from the sugar bowl into my pockets when I was four so I could sneak it into my room to eat it in secret. By the time I was a teenager, I figured out how to make a batter with flour, sugar, water and vanilla that was easy to throw up. Now I'm rollercoastering between eating only carefully weighed organic foods last week, to eating a chocolate cake last night, then buying another one today to replace the first cake so my husband wouldn't know I ate it all, but then ate that one tonight! I don't let myself throw up anymore, I just try to go to the gym a lot instead.

Apparently I was a fussy eater as a kid and never ate much. Things have changed now. I became obsessed with dieting at 15 which led to anorexia and bulimia. I maintained a healthy weight while bulimic but in 2006 I had to go to hospital for psychosis. That psych meds they put me on made me ravenous... I ate all the food they gave me and slept all day and needless to say I put on weight. Since then I've been trying to lose that weight and go through phases of restricting and binging. I think about food all the time - wish I could just eat like a normal person!

Mine started when I was 12, and my mom put me on my first diet. Something about "you can't have that" that made me want it more, even sneaking it. That is when food at our house began to disappear. When mom would say, "I know we had more of that".

I was young too. I think it was when I was about 8. I started eating more than i should have when i would come home from school, (then it was because i was being teased) and it just grew from there. I started binging on pasta and bread (not together) when I was about 12, and had a reason for wanting to try to make myself feel better. Now I am still obsessed with food. and still binge on pasta and bread. Never together, but they are my go-to foods. From what i read bread product have some kind of chemical reaction that makes you feel good, or something. Now I binge less, but I don't have a reason, really. I think it is more of a habit than anything else now.

I was 19 when i started. I had been put through a recovery from anorexia, but with no counselling or therrapy, just food shoved down my throat morning noon and night. So i never dealt with my demons, now i just have a new way of masking them - food! Though thinking back as a child, food was always my comfort so maybe it has been underlying the whole time. It's wiered though, wheni was anorexic people worried and it was a serious matter - now i am overweight still having the same undealt with issues, but it's fine, she's just happy and chubby!!!!!! how wrong they are x

I clearly remember when my eating issues started. It was when my parents were divorced and my step dads daughter came to live with us. She constantly made fun of me for eating anything. She went to school and told kids I ate 3 bologna sandwichs for breakfast. I did no such thing but kids are cruel. It was then that I started looking a food differently. I starting eating as soon as everyone left. I remember waiting for everyone to leave and then I would thaw out meat and cook it. My mom used to get so mad at me. Geez....I hadn't thought about those times in forever. Not pleasant memories. Lora

I think my binging began in high school. I remember going down to the local gas station and getting tons of snacks to eat usually in one sitting. My mother is a binge eater so I think I learned a lot of it from her unfortunately so now I have to try to reprogram myself.

When I was 6 we moved to London from the US, and I was really really sad about leaving my friends.. we went to a stuck-up british school and my mom cut my hair short so that I looked like a boy. I hated London... I started sneaking food then and there. I was never overweight before I left, but when we came back 2 years later, I was. Sometimes I think that if we never moved to London, I would still be skinny/happy/active like I was before moving. Imagine the subconscious blame/grudge I have with my parents about that!!!!

Mine is kinda interesting...
My dad remembers it better than I. I would eat when told, etc. No sneaking food or anything. One day I had a friend over, dad came in to say dinner was almost ready and my friend clapped and said "yay! food! Dinner!" Dad said I asked him why she was so excited about dinner. Since then I ate a lot more and it accelerated.
