i was giving this advice to someone but thought it might be helpful to multiple people who are "night bingers". I was thinking, if you live alone you could take a tip from my host mother in Italy... she kept no food in the house and went out to buy fresh unprepared fruits, vegetables and meat every day, it's kind of the italian way. it's much harder to overeat if there's no food in the house besides the food that you want to eat for the day (most severe urges that i have pass in less than an hour if i can make it through)! i know it sounds like a pain in the ass but i think an hour of extra work a day might be worth the satisfaction of greater control. also, make sure to continue to eat lots of grains and protein and warm food (so you don't get hungry and lose willpower... i kind of think of it like the AA acronym HALT... when you reach for what you're addicted to you're supposed to ask yourself if you are Hungry Angry Lonely Tired because that is when your willpower is the lowest). Good luck everyone, I know we can do this!

At first I thought that this sounded like it could get expensive, BUT I guess it wouldn't be any worse than eating at fastfood places everyday. But I have a husband and 2 kids to feed as well, so this wouldn't work for me. I do think that it sounds like a really good ideal though!

This does sound like a really good suggestion about only buying fresh. I know that if I lived alone there would not need to be all the temptations that are in my house now. What I've been trying to do is limit my kids to their special treats only on weekends. One of my sons is vegetarian and he is very conscious of healthy eating and is able to avoid most unhealthy snacks. I really admire him! My youngest son LOVES his unhealthy snacks, so its him that I need to limit more. But just knowing that those types of foods are around, that's what I obsess about. I am also a member of a weight loss group that helps me plan my daily menus. This really helps when I stick to them. Some days are easier than others. I am thinking about seeing a professional to help with the BED part.

Hey, thanks for reminding me about HALT:)
Of course, I seem to transform into a carb zombie at night. Sometimes, there's no room for reason. Just chocolate...:(

I have started doing that.
Buying everyday, fresh does stop binging. I get out to the shops and see people. I am in control.

I like the idea and I wish I could do it but I live in a dorm room and have to go to the cafeteria. But over the last few years colleges have become more conscious of offering healthful and fresh food so I'm trying to graze there instead of the cake area.
