So, I was going to take some of the great advice I have gleaned from some of you, and change up my running routine. Some of you suggested taking one of my running days and shortening the distance while adding the speed. So, I invited my friend to join me in my quest. We decided to run for two miles going all out. So, off we go, running harder than I have ever run, and we are doing great! We get to the end of our route and we are totally exhausted and breathing like a rabid dog! Not pretty! We were even congratulating each other saying, "That wasn't as bad as we thought." So, on my way to work, I decided to drive the route one more time just to pat myself on the back one last time. WHAT???? We did not run for two miles? We only ran for 1.3 miles! Are you kidding me? Talk about taking the wind out of my sails. Needless to say, I will diligently drive or map out all of my future runs! HAHAHA

" Sounds like a great start to me!

If you want to map out your runs online, I know that www.beginnertriathlete.com has a program for that. The website is free, but you might have to register to use that function.

Keep up the good work! "

" That's okay - I was having a discussion with some Canadian cyclists about distance and speed, and was gradually becoming more and more impressed with the super-human monster skills that were being described (a nation of Lance Armstrongs, they just had to be, was it the cold weather training that made them so tough?) -

- until we realized they were talking kilometers and I was thinking miles! "

" Fiddler, that gave me a good laugh! I switch back and forth between metric and US system in daily life and in school all the time, and sometimes I still get confused! "

" Funny as heck, yet I sympathise at the same time.

When we did a charity walk for MS a few weeks ago, a few of us decided that we were going to run the 5 mile route. In humor, since we were the only ones to run, we "claimed" first through third places...:)...

Total time was 43 minutes. I sat and thought to myself that I have never run this fast before (I average just below 11 min per mile, and this was about 8:36 per). Found out later that not only was it not 5 miles like I thought (it was 3.75), but the average time was actually WORSE than my norm.

Sometimes, all you can do is go Pfffffttttttt!!!!!!

Well NOTW, the main thing is that you tried. There's no shame in that. Just laugh and keep on trying! "
