I have been running to just over a year, and I feel like 90% of the time I push myself hard and I feel really good about it. Then there is the other 10% of the time, I run hard on the same courses I run the majority of the time, and I feel like my legs are jelly, and my lungs are going to explode. I don't feel like I change my pace by enough to matter, but my body is screaming at me from start to end. Am I the only one?

" not a runner, but have experienced the same thing on the bike. Sometimes it's from overtraining (not enough rest days). Other times it's just a bad biorhythm day and I go with the flow. I tell myself that it's about being in motion and not about speed or strength on that day. If I must ride on consecutive days and I've pushed extra hard on day one, then day two I'll back off on the intensity and focus on something else, like breathing, pace or pedaling technique. "

" Funny, I just experienced this yesterday on the ellip. I do a high intensity interval...not the 15 min. program...the 35 minute one. Anyhoo...

I was feeling under the weather anyway, so I decided not to go balls to the wall...well...I couldn't have even if I had wanted to. I chalked it up to the 6 days in a row I was at the gym last week and only taking Saturday off. I did splurge and take Monday off but I still had a hard time yesterday. I have a tendency to overtrain...I really should be more careful about that...

Anyway...do what you can do, and take an extra rest day if you need it...do as i say, not as i do...lol "

" I experience it all the time. Sometimes I think it has more to do with what I eat the day before. But I am not completely sure. "

" No way I'm sure all people who work out regularly feel that way. I ran today and haven't run since Saturday so a whopping 4 days off and today was like I never ran a foot in my life!
My husband notices if he eats pasta at dinner the night beofre he has TONS of energy so it I believe it does depends on a lot of factors..you just use those off days as days you KNOW you really persevered! "

" Definately pasta, I depend on it the night before a long run. Works like magic. "

" for me, weather effects my lung capacity as well as, what even, I'd ate the day before.
They typically say, depending on the amount of miles you do, that you should be hydrated thoroughly as well as your body securing enough burning (extra) energy to get through the route. On your good days, find out what works and repeat. However, going through standard repititive exercises lets the muscles get "used" to what your doing. Perhaps some sprinting and or fast runs in between your miles is best. "

" Fiddler's right, sometimes it's overtraining, and other days that energy is just not there. We're biological, not machines, so we ebb and flow. It's nothing bad. When it happens, just enjoy the day, relax and take pleasure in the running itself. You'll be better the next time you run. "

" I'm fairly new to running and I have the same problem. I run the same time of day the same route and it still happens. It doesn't make me feel like I'm getting any better though. "
