New and need motivation

I really, really want to drop 20 lbs. or at least one pant size since almost all my pants from last summer are now either tight or too small. I've always carried weight in my bottom, but now I've got a gut and need to get rid of it!! I want to feel good about myself again and not have to buy bigger clothes (cause I love shopping).

But my biggest hurdle right now is motivation. Running is out of the question, cause I have terrible pain in my feet, ankles and shins when running. But walking in the past helped me lose 20 lbs. I have a treadmill, but can't get motivated to use it cause I get sooo bored on it. I have been trying to watch my eating habits. I'm trying to avoid sugar as much as possible too.

Anyhow, I could write so much more, but my main point is I just need some words of encouragement or any words of motivation to get off my bum and just do it! TIA!

" Well, I've motivated myself since posting this. I've walked 2 miles for 37 min on my treadmill and actually feel great and didn't get bored. I watched tv while walking :) "

" music and tv help me sooooooo much. Also if you do this trick every minute increase your speed or incline just one tap of the button. That way you're concentrating on when you need to push the button next and the time FLIES. I go up for five minutes then down for five and repeat. I also have exercise ADD meaning I can't stay on one machine too long. sometimes I do 10mins on the elliptical then 10 on the treadmill and 10 on the rotating stairs - but if you don't belong to a gym maybe you could find other creative things to do in addition to the treadmill. " I highly recommend a gym membership. I find it to be very inspirational. I do admit, it is hard to get motivated to go sometimes, but once i'm there, I give it all I have. I have some really great music on my mp3 player that keeps me going while i'm hauling tail! I find it to be very discouraging to have a tuner on and commercials or slow songs come on. I like to be in control of my workout.

Running gives me shin splints too. I have recently gotten into doing HIIT. It's nice, because I can lift and do that in the same day. It doesn't take long and it FEELS GREAT. I have said before that folke in my gym think i'm a freak the way I haul ass on the ellip! Definitely a bonus too, is the access to weight training. We are big advocates of that around here. We don't put up with pansie asses either...lolol!

So, head to your local YMCA, even. They have so much to offer these days. I'm even going to get my group fitness cert and personal training through the Y!

Welcome, good luck and be well. "

" I have found that walking outside is easier for me to do than a treadmill, especially with the weather getting so nice. Walking my dog and or going to a park where there are people all out enjoying the sun makes it more like a fun activity than "Exercising" "

" Thanks for all the inspiration guys! My son plays little league and they have a sidewalk for walkers that extends quite a ways around the entire fields. I've walked it once, but it goes further. Next time I'm there (weather permitting) I'm gonna go the distance! It was a nice change from the treadmill. I've also ordered a kickboxing dvd, so I'm hoping that will help. Gym membership will have to wait until I get back from vacation, but it's still in the works. Thanks again and best of luck to all of you..way to go wkrn on getting your cert! I would love to do that someday! "

" walking outside is a big factor of my exercise- i also bought some videocycle dvds from amazon.com-even though they are primarily for biking, i use the imagery to take me away from my living room to somewhere else- the oregon tape is beautiful... "

" ipod shuffle? podcasts? like inside out weight loss and reasonable diet's six minutes of sanity. Don't forget to smile while you are doing it :) Makes it more bearble.

Try thinking of the silliest thoughts ever. Like a platypus grilling pineapple wearing a sombrero. Silly stuff. Laughter always helps. Try making silly faces. "
