Student loans with bad credit...

Hi everyone! I am attempting to get a R.N. degree at the local tech, and my husband and I make too much for me to quality for aid, and I seem to have no other option than to take out loans. We cannot afford for me to quit working, yet I must if I am to do my clinicals. We also have a 6yr old. Basically, I need to know what options for loans I have to get money to go to school. We filed bankrupcy in 2003, so it doesn't matters. Does anyone have a suggestion/s? I have spent hours doing scholarships and grants to no avail...

" Are you currently working in the health care field? Most hospitals have programs to reimburse tutition if you continue for a certain number of years working from them after graduation. In some cases if you can't come up with the money up front they will make exceptions and pay the tutition as long as you are pulling passing grades. Good Luck hope all works out on your journey. "

" I too don't qualify for any grants in college. If they offered you a federal stafford or perkins loan, I would jump on it, because they usually come with low interest rates. If you are in the same case I am in currently. My Stafford loans don't even cover all of my tuition, and I go to the cheapest 4 year college in kansas! So, what I did last year and will probably have to do this year, is take out a private student loan. I got my loan from Chase Student Loans. They will loan you up to like $40,000 and will send the check directly to you, so you have money to buy books, etc. With them, you can choose to start paying on the loan now or defer payments until you graduate. The interest rate is kind of high, but in my personal opinion, it is better for me to go into debt to try to finish my degree rather than quit school and make a lot less money than I will in the future. Good luck! "

" Thanks for the advice so far...I have a question as to loans...did you take it in one lump sum for all of school, or each semester/year of school? I don't know how this really works, or if the interest will be out of control, but I have to do something. I'd really appreciate any input. "

" seriously before you take out a loan figure out about programs at hospitals that will pay for your schooling. I work in the medical field and have heard of a lot of hospitals that will cover tuition. "

" It is only the bigger hospitals, (which I have applied to and have no experience, so they aren't hiring me..) that offer it, and they are almost an hour away. I have thought about that option, but need my foot in the door. I don't like the idea of being indentured to them, but yes, I considered it, and tried... I just got hired to work for a hospice part time, and hope that with a foot in the door, and something health related to put on a resume, I guess I may try again...anything else? "

" My daughter go her grad school loans through the University. I have college loans through Sallie May. My DD is and RN becoming a nurse practitioner. She works at a hospital of course and will be doing her clincals she already works 50 hrs a week, not sure how she will do it. She has twin children age 6 and a single mom, I take care of the kids. By the way she is really crabby most of the time. She loves her work though she is in labor and delivery, she makes real good money, but will have her own womens clinic in two years, thats the plan. Got all her loans through the school "

" If you have filed bankruptcy it will be hard if not impossible to get a student loan through a private agency like chase. They look at your credit. With that said, we have bad credit and my H was able to get a private loan through Chase bank for a student loan. He couldn't a lot but he got enough. The balance thats left the school let us make monthly payments.
I can tell you, it is hard to get loans from private companies when you have bad credit. When it comes to the guaranteed student loans they don't look at your credit but you have to go through the school for those. You just have to talk to the financial aid folks and have them help you....Good Luck... "
