I so totally under stand, I try to put money away and as soon as I have just a little bit, something comes up, that you have to deal with right there and then.

Can your car hang in there until you get the money? What about asking your work to pay out some of your holidays? My work did when I needed to move house and although it wasn't normal practise, I wrote a letter to my boss and explained my situation.
I go up and down with my finances, even to the point where I am physically sick with anxiety whenever unplanned bills crop up (my brakes were on the verge of failing and I had no $ but they hung in there til I did)
Good luck!

Oh yeah...that happens to me too. So I don't even bother to write out a budget. It is like a jinx, as soon as I do some huge bills comes up, not planned for. I had to get a new part for my car recently and it was over $300. So I had to take out a pay advance, you have to pay it back in 30 days, so you can save up some money to repay it, then take it out again for a smaller amount until you are able to catch up. That is the only thing that has worked for me on that.

I really do appreciate this - I had recently a huge bill on my car and also with the heating in the house, both totally unexpected. Like you, I have cut my credit cards up & it has been a case of monthly payment for the heating and robbing Peter to pay Paul...*sigh*

The unexpected always happens...vet bill, car broken down, refridgerator goes out...blah, blah, blah. For those of us that live paycheck to paycheck...there isn't anything extra left over for those types of things.

so...for those making budgets...why are you not including emergency events? Car repairs, health care, etc. Any little bit helps.

In response to Maxell...because I am not making ends meet. I have used up my savings for unexpected Dr. bills, a $400 vet bill, new tires for my car. Soon I will probably just sell my condo, pay off all debt and start fresh. I think it will be a lot less stress. First I have to do some work on the condo to make it marketable.
