Need a job, but feel Paralyzed

I really need to get a job. I am competent and have a goood resume, but I have been out of work for about a year and with everything that has happened in the last 2 years, I just feel paralyzed.

When you go to get a job you have to present a good face and show potential. I find that so hard because I feel so low.

But also, I am embarassed to say that I honestly don't know how to start to look for more than an hourly wage job. I am scared, I am trying to be honest and get help. Do any of you have any concrete feedback about how to get out of this feeling of paralysis and fear?

I already see a therapist and am on anti-depressants. I feel like I am trying, but I sit in this house, scared to go out because it costs money and yet the more I sat paralyzed the more scared I feel.

Any ideas?
Thanks-
Annie

" I actually prefer hourly gigs more than hiring on someplace. I can make more money hourly than salary. The benefits packages are mostly hyped up rubbish frequently unless it's a government agency. Plus salary jobs can leave you hanging when the new ceo decides to "restructure" and break up the company into pieces to be sold off to foreign powers. Contracts frequently also enrich a resumé with a diverse skillset.

A lot is a matter of sales. You are selling yourself to whomever you interview with. Don't sell yourself short! You need confidence and to be optimistic.

It sounds like you need to focus first on improving and boosting your confidence levels. Could be easy as taking vitamin C and going for a walk each morning. I have found that when I'm happier and smiling more that I tend to be more productive and get jobs easier.

Speak with various staffing agencies. They don't get their profit margins unless you get your foot in the door with a company. Most headhunters I've dealt with have an abundance of resources and tips to assist people throughout the process of getting back into the workplace. I have probably worked for about 20 different headhunters so far. Also, online resources are excellent -such as monster.com etc.

Make a gamplan and set some attainable goals for yourself -you could do that right here on your DS profile!

I am always a big fan of getting supportive local friends and family involved. Online support groups are great, but I think people should have in-person support groups to bounce ideas off as well. "
