" Get your score from ALL the credit bureaus because they can differ widely between the three (Experian,TransUnion,
EqiFax) If these units are funded by HUD, I'd be
suspicious if they want credit score info. "

" First of all, that's doesn't necessarily mean that you have bad credit. They might just not want to pull your credit themselves.

What is your current financial situation? Do you have come money stashed away? And how soon do you need the apartment?

1) If you have money stashed away, and can pay first and last months rent up front, most apartment complexes will get you in. They care more about past evictions that may appear on your credit report.

2) When you order your report, do get it from all three bureaus. Review them carefully to look for any errors, and dispute them immediately (you can call the bureaus for information). But unless you've had a past eviction, then you can probably wait.

3) If your credit is horrible, and you need to fix it asap - Pay off any debts that you can afford to pay off either completely or by a decent amount. This will take up to 30 days to reflect your credit, but will boost it.

4) Look at other apartments! lol - not to say you haven't but its usually a simple process. They usually check your credit right there- just to make sure you have no past evictions. If something is not good enough with your credit, they usually just require more of a deposit. But shop around, see what the specials are, but do NOT let several places check your credit report. Too many inquires will only lower your score.

Hope this was helpful somewhat. lemme know how everything turns out! : ) "

" Also, have you tried getting a room in an apartment or house where someone is looking for a roommate?
They probably won't check your credit. "
