hello. i posted in the myofascial pain syndrome forum too. i just wanted to share what has helped me a lot. i hear about fibromyalgia all the time but i never hear people mentioning magnesium. so i wanted to share that idea with you people out there.

anyway, i had a lot of pains, in my chest, my legs, my arms, my back etc. i had a lot of muscle tightness and a lot of tender points, some trigger points. i have read briefly at some posts here and it seems like people get a lot of relief from hot baths/stretching/exercising, all those things can help muscles to relax. well, magnesium does that too. my doctor didnt diagnose me with 'fibromyalgia' even though it sounds just like me when i read about it, but she diagnosed me as magnesium deficient. magnesium helps send the signals for your muscles to relax, when your muscles dont relax you can get knots and trigger points etc that can cause these pains. magnesium is also needed for many nerve functions and in general in the body.. and the heart.

the first day she gave me a supplement , she actually had me take two doses, and the next day all my muscles were sore - but the good sore like after a massage. like they finally relaxed after so long. i take a liquid magnesium supplement that holds about 250% RDA before bedtime. i only get a few pains a month and the muscle tension has reduced a lot. i feel a lot better too mentally.

anyway, im not a doctor, but i would strongly suggest for you to try it for a month or so and see if it helps.. i say this because it really changed my life and helped me live normal again. i read these and read how it sounded exactly like me and how everyone is looking at medications rather than a simple dietary supplement (which most of america is deficient in, and symptoms of magnesium deficiency sound an awful lot like a lot of these disorders and syndromes popping up, i look and see how i could have fit into them and be subject to endless medications too, but the magnesium has really been a miracle cure for me).

im not saying i hold a miracle cure for everyone but maybe its something simple for you guys too that everybody is overlooking. i wish you guys luck.

" Maryca- there's questions over what the ideal amount that we need is, and especially with fibromyalgia, your ideal amount might be much higher than your average joe, because you need a lot more to help your muscles relax and stop firing signals. (i was actually reading up the connection of magnesium to fibromyalgia at http://web.mit.edu/london/www/magn... and it made a lot of sense to me. it's worth a read! many references.)

MelFM- I started off taking 150mg Magnesium in the form of a powder packet called "Magnelevures" that also has some B Vitamins in it. I've been taking it since February 08. it did give me pretty immediate relief in some form but the most benefit has been after taking it a while. then last week i switched to a liquid supplement from Integrative Therapeutics Inc. "Liquid Calcium Magnesium" that has 500mg magnesium 500mg calcium and 100iu vit D and 250mcg Boron. we stepped it up because my most problematic point hasn't let up while most other symptoms are slowly fading. dont take pills at first, you dont absorb it very well and it might not do nearly as much good. my doctor told me that it would be okay to switch to a cheaper pill after using these supplements for a while to get my stores built up to normal (even though my blood levels weren't off very much, i had no stores) and then the amount from the pills would just be for maintenance. (i actually stopped the powder packet for a while and was using a standard magnesium pill from the store and it wasnt doing hardly anything and my pains started flaring up again, but, the powder packets are 30$ for 30 packets, or 22$ i paid for the liquid bottle)

i think theres a chance that some of you might experience these symptoms for the same reason that i did, so that's why i wanted to give out this information. and i hope somebody benefits from it or can lessen their symptoms dramatically. i do still get pains but they are really, really minor now. "

" im sorry, i wish i could edit my post, i forget to mention that i had a lot of heart flutters as well.. almost nightly... from everything i've read about magnesium (many different sources) they all agree that magnesium helps to regulate the firings of the heart as well (since it is a muscle also)... and i believe it because i have only had 1 flutter in the last 6 months. im not sure if fibro's normally have anything similar to that but i figured i would throw it out there. " I bought magnesium a few months ago, started taking it then got busy and forgot.

Guess I need to set my supplements out on the table so I can remember. Get busy with the grandbaby and forget about myself.

Thanks for the reminder. "
