Amitriptyline reaction

I feel like i have been through the wringer! i have been in so much pain in my chest caused by chostochondritis (due to fibro) and my dr kept saying "let's try this" and never really hitting on a good solution. Finally put me on Amitriptyline but it totally wiped me out so we decreased the dose. Two days later out of the blue (on a day i was finally noticing a decrease in pain) i started to shake and my heart rate soared to 140. I went to urgent care and it was determined this was a reaction to the Amitriptyline! Has anyone else ever had this type of reaction? It took 2 days before i was feeling better. I'm happy to report that i have since been started on pred. because the chest pain was determined to be caused by my connective tissue disease instead of the fibro. and i have not had chest pain for 3 days! I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has had this type of reaction!

" Wow. I am so glad you posted this as I am on Amitriptaline as well. I take blood pressure meds and my blood pressure has been way to high or way too low. I got the blood pressure under control but my resting pulse is 130. Thanks for writing this. Love Cris "

" That's a wretched drug! It's one of the few drugs that doesn't have an antidote if someone OD's on it. I was on it and when I realized that I wouldn't be able to get out of the house if it was on fire, I quit taking it. "

" I have had that same symptom on amytriptalyene (sp). I was on it for 3 years and when I told my doctor about it, He IGNORED ME, then upped the dosage. Luckily I fought through it. I don't think he really cared how i was doing. Just seeing as many patients as possible since he was the only doc in town who accepted medicaid. And he was a psychotherapist to boot lol... "
