Tender Points...

I have a tender point on my ribcage on both sides that I have never seen on a fibro chart. The pain doesn't radiate, so I'm thinking tender point rather than trigger point.

I discovered these points today when I was having ribcage pain (which I know a lot of others here have also), and I went poking around trying to find the source of the pain. When I touched this one spot I had to bite my lip to keep from screaming - it was shocking how bad the pain was when I touched it!

These points are a bit hard to describe, but if you let your arms fall to your side, the pain is located on the ribcage under my arm, a bit above elbow level.

Anybody else have pain in this location? Am I just weird? (OK don't answer that LOL). But seriously, I've never seen this location on a chart, and I have this painful spot on both sides.

" I have a pain in my left ribcage evryday. I was maybe thinking it was just a gas pocket or something, but maybe it is attributed to the fibro. You got me thinking now... "

" Nikki, mine is much worse on the left. I didn't know I had it on the right until I started poking around. The left side is both more tender and more widespread, not just confined to the tender point, and yet it doesn't radiate when I press on the tender point (but it DOES make me feeling like SCREAMING!).

One of the great things about this site is that there are so many people here - you can almost always find someone else who is feeling what you're feeling.

Thanks for your response! "

" Renee, thanks - I honestly didn't know these tender points existed until today. I nearly always have ribcage pain on the left side, but I never really investigated it until today - just suffered silently :) "

" Nikki, amen :) But anything we learn will someday, sometime serve to help someone else I think. At least I keep telling myself that trying to put a positive spin on things. I'm not miss sunshine, but I do try to stay positive, as I do believe it helps me cope with the pain. "

" I do too. Every night no matter how bad my day is I make myslef write down at least 5 things I was thankful for that day. Some days it is really hard, but it always makes me see that there are things I can be thankful for in each day. "

" That settles it! I am one big tenderpoint! It is all a big blur to me because no matter where I press, it hurts or stings enough to make me jump out of my skin. I mean, the pain lasts long after you stop touching the spot. I have some areas that have turned almost completely numb too. I think I have given up trying to figure it out. "
