Am I missing something here?

My doctor wants to start me on Lyrica to try to help my pain levels. He wrote me a prescription that we knew we would need pre-authorization for and submitted his request to my insurance. They replied and denied the request because they said that I must have suffered from fibromyalgia for at least 3 months. Am I missing something here? I became ill in 1989 and was diagnosed in 1994! How much proof is needed?! When I signed up they asked me about my primary disability.....F-I-B-R-O-M-Y-A-L-G-I-A.............It was difficult enough to fight for 5 years for disability because doctors did not believe it existed. Combine anal retentive insurance companies with incompetent doctors and what do you get? I'll leave that to your imagination......

" It's very frustrating indeed. That's why we need to speak out as well as stick together. I have gained so much from this board since I've been on it. I know it's one place I can get understanding and empathy, and a place to vent! I would fight them on their denial, it's not your fault it took so long to get a diagnosis. If you absolutley can't get that, you might want to try Neurontin. I take 3600 mg per day, and it helps tremendously. I haven't noticed any side effects. I wish you the best. "

" Sorry to hear you are having problems with your insurance company covering Lyrica. My husband and I both have medical insurance and both United and Aetna covered it for me without questions. Can't say I feel it's doing any good, but they covered it. "

" Hmmmm....don't get me started on Ins. companies. Ugh. I hate to see you go through this. Lyrica did nothing for me except make me feel 100% stoned. Did nada for the pain. BUT, every single person is different. I pray things work out for the best for you. Good luck. "

Well I can tell your insurance co. does not have a clue about fibro. Fibro is the tail of the many conditions. (sleep, allergies, thyroid, immune, arth., fatigue, etc) Did they not look at the medical records? "

" it doesn't matter what insurance company you are with, their sole purpose in life is to take your money and then make sure you get as little of it as possible back. Insurance companies don't exist to serve the constituents they exist serve their own interests. it really is no wonder the socialists policy on healthcare is so attractive! "
