Kevin,
I have ridges or lines in my fingernails. I have never thought of it before until this post.

Most of the time those lines and ridges come from a lack of calcium in your diet. Your nails are like bone to the extent that they need proper nutrition to remain healthy and smooth. You can buff those lines out with one of those nail buffers that are very inexpensive.

Yep,, it used to be crosswise, they would be huge waves, like if you stubbed your toe, how you get that ridge that grows out with your nail? Now they are lengthwise and never go away.
I came across something about body system changes causing the crosswise ones, no idea where I read it. I guess it meant if you had a flare or something else happened in your body.
Lengthwise ones I have no idea.. never seen anything to tell me what happens.

I have awful nails that split and crack, are also paper thin, with many ridges and lines. It is a symptom of fibromyalgia.

I've got 'em. My dermatologist said it was a symptom of my psoriatic arthritis. I imagine fibro could do it too. It comes with alot of other weird symptoms.
