" I am on two different forms of marcs and it keeps me able to funstion and do a normal day. I have been without any meds for the last few weeks and it just made me tired so the DR will take you down slow. He is not making a bad choice he is trying to keep you comfortable. I have moved up to taking vitamins also so I try everything. If your realy worried int he health food store there is a detox for your liver which I need to go refill and also a tension rx and they work wonders and move the toxin out of your body!!! "

" I'M ON VICODIN TOOM BUT I ONLY TAKE IT WHEN I NEED IT. THE PHARMACIST SAID THAT IF YOU TAKE TOO MUCH YOU CAN OVER DOSE ON TYLENOL. IT'S MORE TYLENOL THAN A NARCOTIC. ASK YOUR PHARMACIST AND SEE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY.

IT'S REALLY HARD WHEN YOU ARE IN SO MUCH PAIN. YOU WILL TAKE ANYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON. LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES AND WHAT YOU FIND OUT. TAKE CARE, BECKY "

" I WAS ON DARVOCET FOR QUITE A WHILE DAILY THEN MY NEW PAIN DOC HAS ME ON MORPHINE TWICE DAILY. THE DOSE STILL NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED TO ATTAIN CONTROL OF MY PAIN BUT HE IS ALSO GOING TO BE PUTTING ME ON SOMETHING FOR BREAKTHROUGH PAIN I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT WILL BE YET BUT I THINK THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON TREATMENT PLAN. I ALSO TAKE XANAX THAT CAN BE VERY ADDICTIVE. I DON'T WORRY ABOUT BECOMING DEPENDANT ON THEM BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM I WOULD BE TOTALLY BEDRIDDEN AND I HAVE TWO VERY YOUNG BOYS THAT I HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH, SO AS LONG AS I CAN DO THAT AND NOT BE IN HORRIBLE PAIN I WILL DO WHAT EVER THAT TAKES. YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU CONTROL THE DEPENDANCY RATHER THAN IT CONTROLING YOU. IF YOU GET TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS CONTROLING YOU THEN TALK TO YOUR DOC AND TELL HIM THAT YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS TREATMENT PLAN ANY LONGER AND NEED TO LOOK AT OTHER OPTIONS. HOPE THAT THIS HELPS HON TAKE CARE..LOVE AND HUGS..BECCA "

" I take lyrica, morphine and/or ocycontin every day. I figure even if I get addicted, it is a "worth it" trade for me. "

" I've been on so many pain meds over the last nine years. I got tired of all the side effects so I only have one that I use when the pain is really bad. I don't think they help that much I think its more in our minds that we need to take something to get rid of the pain. I know when I first stopped taking them I was so afraid I couldn't handle the pain. There are days that I want to go back on them but I don't want to deal with the side effects. I see a pain sepc in nov to see if he has any suggestions. "

" I know I have been on a lot of different pain meds over the years & the one I found to be most helpful so far is morphine. Unfortuately my pain doc no laonger believes this to be an option thanks to my family doc say I was abusing T3's, which was not true just not managed properly & under prescribed. I am on a ridiculous amount of chemical drugs now & take dagerous amounts of tylenol extra strength which scares me but the docs seem to be convinced it is the way to go. If I were u I would continue with the treament but under a pain specialists treatment plan. I too have 2 small children & my days exhaust me to no end to the point of tears, I just don't feel it is fair. TC Becky, I hope everything works out for u....Skippy :o) "

" Ok I feel a need to clear up several misconceptions while addressing your question. First, if you are treating your pain appropriately, you are NOT addicted. You may be physically dependent on the drug, but all that means is that you would have to back it off slowly if at some point you want/need to discontinue taking it.

ADDICTION is a mental state - not physical. It means you are treating emotional pain with some substance, not physical pain for which you have a prescription and are under a doctor's care. Please don't let any of that make you fear taking the meds you need.

Vicodin is a powerful narcotic, but it has been shown to be effective in treating FMS pain, and a lot of people here are on it. I only take it for breakthrough pain, but it's a lifesaver when I need it.

Tylenol, which is an additive in the generic form hycrocodone (not sure about the brand name drug Vicodin) is one of the safest pain relievers on the market. The fact that some people have had trouble with it doesn't change that. It has been on the market since sometime in the 60s or 70s - forget which now - and very few people have ever had a problem when you compare the numbers with the total number of people who have taken the drug over that period of time.

As for the "price" only you can decide what you're willing to trade for quality of life. I choose to take two prescription pain reducers daily - Mobic and Tramadol - and take hydrocodone/Vicodin, as I said, for b/t pain. My doctor and I have discussed the long-term effects (which are not well known) and I have been very clear with him that I am willing to trade some time down the road for quality of life now.

I hope this helps some - your doctor is taking good care of you - so many here have docs that won't even prescribe effective pain drugs - count your blessings. "

" I am on Percs, Methadone & cymbalta for my pain. I now take 2 percs at a time cause it's the only way I can get any relief! From time to time, i will take a xanax just to get more than 2 hrs sleep.

I go for massages and aquatherapy (hot tubs!). I was on Vic's -- but they have more aspirin than codeine. I think that's when the bruising started. No matter what, always get your liver tested every 3 mths --

Try METHADONE -- 10mg, and it's a FANTASTIC pain reliever. There are certain side effects, but at this point in the game, you have to decide what's worth more.

As long as I'm not yackin' or getting a migraine -- i'm all about it.

In a month, I am getting a spine stim implanted, so I have to lay off the percs for a week before surgery (WHAAAAAT !!!!!!!)

anyways, good luck! you'll be OK.....

Prayers to everyone for a pain free moment.... "
