Hey, all. I have been in a flare up for about 5 days now. I'm getting sick of it as you can imagine. I have had the rugs off the kitchen floor because I want to clean it so bad, but haven't been able to. I have a prescription of generic Ativan, "Lorazapam" and I take it occasionally for different reasons. I have taken it on and off mostly just very occasionally, well, I took my dose, and I felt great! I cleaned my floor and even danced to some tunes, oh, and sang too (too old for American Idol..bummer!). Okay, so this is an example of self-medicating, well why not. My pain is better, my mood is better, and even get an energy boost. As long as I stick to taken it once in a while, I think it's fine. I am at this point that I will do what I have to do once in a while to feel good especially when it's been such a long stretch of a flare-up. For those who don't know, ativan is an anti-anxiety drug. It can be very addicting ONLY if you use it every day for several days. I haven't had any problems with that since I use it sparingly. Heck, I kind of wish Pot was legal for us to use. I would probably do it, but I would want it to come in a pill or something. I have two young kids who I would never want them to know. I've heard it works very well for Fmer's. I know they are working on all sorts of pain drugs, and I just can't wait until they are out and we have more to choose from ya know? Thanks for my little rant, but it's a happy rant...I got my floor clean finally!! Yahoo!!!!!!

i have a prescription for xanax which i think is the same thing.i can take 3 a day it is a low doseage. it does not help pain but it does calm me down or heads off a flare caused by stress or anxiety. some days i take all 3 and some weeks i take 0. i do not find it addicting. i am glad it worked for you.

I take klonopin (which is longer acting than the ativan) and i do the same thing you do, i take more than prescribed some days to help me feel better.
pot does come in THC pills, you may want to ask your doctor about that. LOL good luck and I am glad you got what you needed to do done. hope you have a pain free week!!!!!!!!!

I self-medicate,too. So many times, we are told as patients to take charge of our FM but not really allowed to have any say in what is done. Kinda like being told to build a house but not given any tools with whick to work.
So, i refuse to feel guilty about what I do to make my life simply bearable anymore. As long as you are careful and aware of the consequences, more power to you!

ativan and xanax are actually the opposite... think of ativan like prescription speed... xanax as a depressant... very much not the same thing. :)
shouldn't say this, but never had the script for ativan... when I lived down south my roomie had the script and would slip me one every once in awhile when i really couldn't take it anymore... it did wonders. then xanax at night to help sleep, and i was a whole new woman.

I have real bad anxiety issues, and have taken ativan for it before. It didn't help at all! I also didn't get that good feeling from it, either. I take xanax and it helps my anxiety issues alot. I ran out last Friday and couln't get a script til Monday. My guy thought he had died and gone to hell for the weekend! I bit his head off several times, LOL! I did have to apologize each time and remind him I was out of med. Poor fella! He said next time he will beg them from my sister for me!

I think ativan is similar to xanax, i could be wrong.
Xanax is the fast release, ativan is the extended release. i am on xanax. the same time i started on xanax my doc put me on ativan at bedtime. i dont think i was on it long enough to notice a difference but it made me so hungry i did nothing but eat. it wasnt worth putting on 50 lbs so i went off of it. constant hunger is a common side affect. im so glad it is helping you. i hope u have a good rest of the week.
