I have just returned from holiday and read that there are 2 new FDA approved fibromyalgia medications on the market. They would be a drugs, like Lyrica. Has anyone heard of them? What are they? Or was my info incorrect?

" I'm actually on both Cymbalta and Lyrica together. This is a new combo recommended by my pain specialist. I was on Lyrica 2 yrs ago. did nothing for me, I was on a low dose. I've been on 120mg daily of Cymbalta for a yr. now. The higher dose is for pain. In the spring my pain Dr. added the Lyrica. The goal was to get me to 300mg daily. I started feeling pretty good at 150 mg. so I've stayed at this dose combined with the 120 mg of Cymbalta. I now find myself back to a lot of pain. I have put on a little weight since adding the Lyrica also. I don't know if I should go up on the Lyrica or stop it. I might go up and see if at the 300 mg. it helps my pain, if not wean off it. I hate that I've gained weight. I can feel it in my clothes. I could also be retaining fluids a known side effect. I don't like some of the things I've read recently about Lyrica. Kinda scarey stuff. " Donna, I was under the impression that Lyrica & Cymbalta were similar drugs. I didn't think a dr would put you on both. Am I wrong? I'm on Lyrica right now, taking 100mg 2xday, so I'm up to 200mg day. The dr told me the recommended dose for fibro was 400-600 mg/day, so they're trying to get me up to that dose, it just makes me sleepy. He also insists that if I exercise & eat right, I won't gain weight. I HATE hearing that from doctors. God, I'd love to find a doctor who actually had fibro, or had a spouse with fibro, who truly understood what we feel & what we go through. "

" All I know is that my pain specialist said that this a new combo, that patients have been getting good results with. Maybe that's why he only wants me up to 300 mg. on the Lyrica. BC of the 120 mg. of the Cymbalta. I guess they do different things. They did tell me to excercise and watch what I eat. I do, but the weight gain is fluid I believe. All I know is I hurt like hell right now. I guess I'll go up on the Lyrica. Time will tell. I wonder if anyone else is on this combo? I'll ask on the discussion board. Thanks for the response. "

" ive been on the combo of drugs. both cymbalta and lyrica helped me for a while, but then kind of stopped. i think its worth a try, just be careful if you stop taking the cymbalta. i am going through pretty intense side effects from it that are simply miserable. be careful and good luck. "

" Cymbalta has been used as an anti-depressant, until recently, when the FDA apporved it as a med for fibro. It does have some pain relief benefits to it, and thats why its been approved for the treatment of fibro. "
