Sugar and Fatigue

In the late afternoon or early evening I find myself getting real tired. This is after a one-hour nap in the early afternoon.

When I start getting tired, my body starts to crave comfort food: peanuts, chocolate, ice cream, cookies. I think it just wants to find more energy, which I don't have.

Is there anything I can do, take to keep the cravings down?

Thanks,
Nancy

" I wish i knew. I am the same way. My craving is pop tarts and peanuts. I have to have a poptart before i go to bed. I start getting tired about 2:30 in the afternoon. I get so tired I could lay down in the floor. Maybe somebody has an answer for us. Peggy "

" You can try 5-HTP and D-Ribose. The 5-HTP cuts the cravings way down and the D-Ribose gives you that energy boost in the afternoon. "

" After I posted my question, I thought that maybe I was getting dehydrated and my body really wanted water.

Thanks for the reminder, Dakota, that sugar gives me a rush, then a crash. I knew that, but I forgot.

Carrie, I take 200 mg of selenium in the afternoon. I have thyroid issues and don't think I'm taking enough Synthroid, but my doctor won't increase it because the TSH test comes back "normal". I've read lots about 5-HTP and D-Ribose, but have never tried either.

Thanks all for your posts! "

" artificial sugar WILL NOT help. Try a carb of some kind instead. Maybe a slice of bread with peanut butter or some cold homemade pasta with veggies. But, if you love chocolate, go ahead and have a piece, in fact give me some !!!! lol "

" I HAVE FOUND THROUGH RESEARCH AND MY OWN EXPERIENCE THAT SUGAR MAKE FIBRO MUCH WORSE. LOTS OF CAFFEINE DOES TOO. WHEN I CUT BACK ON BOTH, I FELT A TON BETTER. DARK CHOCOLATE IN MODERATION IS OK. THANKS, BEANIE "

" actuall, there is a snack that will balance your blood sugar so stop the craving - it is any mix of protein and fruit (never fruit alone).....so you could have some almonds with an apple or milk with apple (or any fruit)....plain yogurt & mix in cherries from frozen bag is good (all natural - no preservatives - cause perservatives are horrible for Fibro too)......any protein - nuts, chicken, milk, yogurt, cheese, etc....with fruit (except bananas which are sooo high in sugar).....even canned fruit (in it's own juices) with cottge cheese......hope this helps xoxo "

" Eat a variety more frequant small servings of long-chain Carbohydrates. Each (unprocessed) carbohydrate is broken down at a different rate therefore if you eat a variety you will have a longer steadier energy relaese. If weight is a concern re carbs after lunch time try a variety of protiens after lunch, then again you could also try a protien shake with an ameno acid complex in it. Nuts, Soy sticks, seeds and whole grain carbohydrates are my winners.
