Side Effects of Lyrica

I received my diagnosis two days ago for Fibromyalgia after major extensive testing, and my doctor put me on Lyrica. I took the pill Tuesday night for the first time and then both doses yesterday. My first dose of the morning made me feel litterally tipsy, like I had drank 3 or 4 beers. Is this normal? Also is it too soon to be retaining water from this pill as well? When will I feel relief from the pain and will it completely go away while I am on this medication? Will I have to take this medication for life? Can I take diet pills or diuretics with this medication? WOW I didn't realize I had that many questions until I got rolling...

" I can't answer your questions but wanted to warn you that a friend of mine ended up on the verge of committing suicide from the Lyrica. Now that she's off it, she's fine. Watch your mood and thoughts.... "

" I took my first dose Tuesday night at bed, then yesterday morning I took a dose. It made me feel kind of shaky & my muscles felt sort of weak. It was a weird feeling. I haven't noticed any water retention, but I know it's a side effect. If I were you, I would call your doctor & let him know how it's making you feel; he may want to take you off of it. While you're talking to him, you can ask him the other questions too.
Good luck! "

" Hi,
I was put on Lyrica about three weeks ago to help with leg problems. I have spasms and my legs jerk so bad it wakes me and my husband . I got online and reseached the medication. After reading the side effects I decided not to take it at all. It said it may cause swelling in hands and feet. It may cause none stop hunger and weight gain. Lots of other side effects as well. I work very hard to maintain a healthy weight because I have way less pain in my back and legs when I'm not over weight.Check out different web sites about the side effects then talk to your Doctor and then make a decision. It does work really well for some people.
Good Luck. "

" I see my pain doc that prescribed the Lyrica for me tomorrow. It has helped with the pain (a lot) and my doc said she was hoping that I would have the (good) benefits the most and the bad ones (the least) and as I read everything written here, I don't know what to think. I have so many of these problems without the Lyrica and now I am wondering what to attribute to Lyrica and what I should not attribute to it. Will be talking with her tomorrow regarding my Duragecic patch (which she put me on) that has been recalled these last two weeks in different strengths.. Should be an interesting visit. Take care. Will report in Wednesday. susan..... "

" It seems that there are so many negatives and potential negatives to this drug that I am not sure I am going to continue it much longer. However the pain in my upper body and hips is at about 50% now, and I seem to function as far as mobility goes much better already. I started a journal that I use to document my entire day from waking and how I feel to taking the meds and how long I feel like I feel or don't feel (if that makes sense), I also keep a strict count on all food intake and exercise that I do as well so that if my weight does go up (God help me that it doesn't) I will know it is the drug and not my diet. However the most important thing I have found out is if I do not drink any caffine I do not feel quite as drunk or loopy. Actually I am just a little "out there" and it is tolerable, but I do like my caffinated coffee in the AM. I guess all I can do is keep you posted and pass on what I learn. "

" I haven't felt good or bad effects. I've been working out lightly and the pain has not increased significantly, so it could be helping, but I don't think so.

As you know, each person reacts differently and I wouldn't be surprised if what you feel is related to the meds. Sometimes these side effects get better. I'd watch it carefully and be safe, don't drive. I hope it gets better with time, as my side effects from other meds have.

Good luck and hang in there! "

" I have been taking Lyrica for about 4 months now and at first it was doing really good for me as far eliminating the pain, although I did have some swelling in the hands and feet. Now, I do not see that it is helping with the pain so much. The next dr. visit, I am going to ask the dr. to take me off of it. Why take it if it is not helping? Plus I am a cardiac patient and a diabetic and I worry about the swelling in hands and feet. I don't want to take More Lyrica. "
