Hi just wanted to introduce myself, I found out about 3 weeks ago my dad had colon cancer, and 2 days later found out my best friends mom has breast cancer...talk about everything all at once! Well then my dad went in for his surgery to remove his tumor and it was a successful surgery...they did however find it in his lymph nodes...so he will have to do chemo..I would really like to know what to expect with this...also my fiends mom had her surgery and came through with flying colors and it didn't reach her lymph nodes...so with the bad comes the good I guess...any information would help...any friends that are going through simmilar experiences would help as well...thanks...

" hopefully the chemo will help to shrink the infected nodes. It's a very tough road ahead of you so buckle in. Someone should journal everything that is happening. It's important to write down all days of chemo, surgery, doctor appts., everything! It can be very confusing because you will get SO MUCH information. My prayers are with you and your dad! "

" Wig shopping is so much fun! Take her to a good wig place and tell her to spend the money on the real hair wigs. The synthetic one's look like wigs. When we went, this lady had her son's wedding that weekend and she was young poor thing! She was trying on the long hair ones and she looked BEAUTIFUL! She was having so much fun with the different looks that we all became friends in there telling her the ones we liked and the ones, not so much! Good luck honey and again, this will be a memorable event for your friend and her mom! "

" Hi I am sending up a prayer for you and your family at this time of need. Also ,sending prayer especially to you. As once a caregiver, pleas know that at this time all you can do is be there for your Dad and help him through the sideeffects of Chemo as, it depends on the type of treatment he is taking to how severe the side effects. Be sure to get all the info you can. Livestrong is a wonderful website to get started with... "

" The hair loss is almost universal with chemo. But it does grow back! In the meantime, the bald look is very in these days. Lot's of young athletes shave their heads and some men look really great.

Other side effects vary widely. Some people get sick, can't eat, get very tired, and others get none of these at all. It all depends on the patient. My husband is almost finished (will start his final cycle this week), and, fortunately he has been okay except for the tiredness and hair loss. Hopefully, your Dad will do well. "

" Hi, my dad is in the same boat as yours. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer in March and had surgery to remove the mass. He also had cancer in a couple lymph nodes and in the wall of the colon. The doctor said they got it all out, but he's now doing the chemo as a preventative. So far we're one month in to a six month treatment. Just be there for your dad, there's gonna be lots of ups and downs, but just hang in there with him. My thoughts are with you.

Jennifer "
