If is helps you at all, this what I have learned about those who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. In the medical community they find that in some cases the medicine/treatment (IE Chemo, radiation, amputation, pharmaceuticals...) these people need to take to treat their disease SEEMS to the patient worse than the idea of dying. For your brother, and for mine, the treatment was to be sober- but the pain of facing their addictions was so strong- they preferred death. With death they are freed from the extreme pain and struggles they battled every day- they are stripped of it and hope the next world will finally release them- and allow them to be at peace. I hope this is helpful

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad to suicide and I know a little of what you're feeling. You're not alone. There are lots of wonderful people here who've been through what you're going through and we're all here to help you. It helps us, too.
Take care of yourself and be well. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I lost my brother as well. It will be a year in June.
A part of you is gone and you are a different person now. Its okay to not cope for a while - its all part of it.
The fog will slowly lift, but never really be gone. Just take things day by day...
I am sorry for your loss...its a horrible tragedy to meet over...but welcome

I'm very sorry. Not quite a year for me. Talk to us, be patient with yourself, stay away from those who are poisonous about suicide, they don't understand. We do. It gets "better". You'll be okay.

When you lose a sibling, it's like a lifelong friend forgets we were there. I know that pain. But there is hope, and a peace to be found. You'll see your brother again, as will I. And I've promised him a great big punch in the gut for leaving me, followed by an even bigger hug.
