My husband has been gone 3 weeks. He was sentenced to 6-8 months and I'm going crazy. I know to some people that is nothing and I don't know how you guys handle it. We have 2 daughters, 6 and 3 years old, and they adore him. I know I need to be strong for them when all I want to do is break down. This is the first time that we have been apart for more than a day or 2 in 7 years and he is my best friend and I can't cope.

" It is hard hlowen, and that's why this site exists. WE are here to help you be strong, and to love you. The first step is to get visitation and phone privileges set up for you and the kids. Have you had time to do either yet? That will give you hope, and help with the emotional hardship of not seeing him or communicationg with him on a regular basis. You can talk to any of us at anytime hlowen. Don't be afraid to utilize the help and support of the women here. They are great! "

" I lost my best friend as well to the system. You will be able to cope. I handle it on a day to day basis. One day at time is all I can do. Once a couple of months go by the time will really start to fly. Keep your strength. Remember you are not alone. We are all walking down this path just in different circumstance. He will be back home in no time. "

" This time you are going through is the worst. That is just the honest truth. And even though he does have 6-8 months which may be less than some of us here.... the pain is still the same, regardless of the sentence length. The same emotions come up, and the same tears fall. You have had someone you love taken away from you... and it's not easy to deal with. As lilacwoman said though... that is why places like this are here. For me... coming to these support rooms are the best way for me to cope. Without them, I would be in mental institution for sure. Just try to stay positive, and know that although you are apart now, it won't be forever. The time will actually go by faster than you think. Try to stay busy...and although you do have those two girls to take care of... make sure you take care of yourself too. Sometimes I think we forget about ourselves b/c we spend so much time worrying about our men or others in our lives. If you don't take care of yourself though... you can't be there for anyone else. Hang in there. "
