My hands have shaken for several years but psychiatrists say it's not ET, that it is the result of medications. The shakes have recently gotten worse. In addition, I have been having jerks and twitches. Do they have anything to do with ET? I am beginning to think my psychiatrists are wrong.

Certain meds. can cause tremors/jerks. I took Mysoline for 1 week and got off of it as I didn't like the side effects. I wouldn't go by what the Psychiatrist says, but what the Neurologist/Movement Disorder Specialist tells you. All you can do is have the testing done and make sure it's not Parkinson's.

My doctor said the same thing. However, once putting me on the Propanalol, higher dose than I needed for my BP, it seemed to work in taking my tremors and making them less noticeable. After that, he was convinced that it was NOT my other medications. Good Luck. Have the dr. check your copper level in your blood. Sometimes that is the reason for tremors. I would be assertive.
