Occipital Lobe Epilepsy and Migraines

I had a brain tumor removed in my occipital lobe 5 years ago. I've had migraines immediately prior to the surgery and afterwards. I got the epilepsy from the surgery. I have run through the gamut of anti-seizure drugs. Right now, I'm on Zonegran or Zonisiamide, but the migraines are killing me. I take the drug for a while, then I get a 3 day migraine. The only way to stop it is to get off the Zonegran. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? My epilepsy is weird, chronic lapsing into complex partial seizures. I see the head of the epilepsy department at a well established hospital. He is referring me to a headache clinic, but he doubts getting off the meds are stopping the migraines. In all honesty, the pain is so bad, I'd like to hack off the back of my head. The pain is mostly centered in the back where the surgery was - occipital region. I have run through some pain killers like darvoset, vicodan, etc. but I can't take them. They make me vomit.

" zzhwy101- I can empathize with you, I get migranes as well, and want to blow my head right off my body... I also have tried several AED's and have had problems with side effects. I am now starting to research alternatives- vitamins, minerals and herbs in hopes that I can find a less toxic way of helping myself. Thanks to another DS member here, carolshelnutt, I have started taking Zinc, this helps to calm the brain. Have you considered consulting an herbal expert or looking into minerals and herbs and finding which ones are effective in reducing migrane pain? Herbs do work, after all the Human Race used herbs as medicine thousands of years ago, and most of our modern medicines are based on the ancient herbal remedies. Also, look into Chinese Herbal Medicine for the same reason... The ancient remedies do work! Best of luck to you- please be pain free very soon! "

" I had never considered that solution kc61, which is a good one for me because I live in the San Francisco area. I know we have some good Chinese herbalists here. Are you taking the herbs for the seizures too? Thanks for the advice. I am definitely going to look into this "
