My Doc is taking me off of Dilantin and putting me on Topamax, any input on Tomamax I have not heard of that med before, I know I am not crazy about Dilantin, espically the facial hair. Any Input would be appreciated.

" I was on Topamax for a while- it did OK at first controlling seizures, but I wound up being allergic to it. Every one is different, it might be a good choice for you! "

" I take topamax combined with Tegetrol. I have been having pretty good seizure control with the combo. No real problems with side effects. I hope it works for you as well "

" My mix is Dilantin, Keppra and then phenobarbital at night. I guess I don't mind the facial hair as I have a goatee. It's the hyperplasia (gum swelling) that's a pain in the butt. "

" I was not thrilled with Dilantin either until I was switched to Zonegran and now I wish I hadnt. As far as I have heard topamax and zonegran have simillar side effects. The dizzyness and lazyness really are the ones that get to me. But I could see the facial hair being annoying if you are a girl it was the posible bone density issues that I was worried about. I hope whatever they switch you to works though :) "
