" Hi- I get Petitmals & Grandmals. I'm on Trileptal, and my neuro reduced my dose last month, due to side effects. Now seizures are happening to me again, I had 13 PMs & 3 GMs last month. When you say "wondering seizures", do you mean absence seizures, where the epileptic just stares for a bit until something prompts them to come forward to consciousness? Is she seeing a neurologist? Are you unhappy with her neurologist? If so, have her find another neuro, or have her see an epileptologist. Best of luck to you and your Mom! "

" no, she has had those, but its like she is awake and talking, but its not really her. she sez and does things that arent her. she gets really violent and doesnt remember anything. she has a neuro. but i dont think there are any epileptologist in are area.i havent ever heard of one before either. her neuro is ok better then most around here, but i would like her to go to a neuro in eugean. they probably know more. " I think I may have had those before. I can't fully remember though. Cause, when it's happening, you're not fully mentally there. I've had ones where it's like I was awake in the building I was in...but at the same time...I was somewhere else completely doing something totally different. But I'd still be walking around...even if I was just sitting there, it'd be as though I was walking around doing something active. It does feel weird. If you can remember it. "

" I myself have experienced almost many different types of seizures over the 30 plus years of seizures. Mine started as tonic/clonic then gradually over the years became less and less severe. My seizures are now classified as complex partial and they are not a daily occurance as they one were. But sometimes i experience partial seizures and what you might call petite mal. The worse thing ive experienced is status epilepticus. I was married at the time so my wife called 911. Is you mother on any meds at the moment? When she has what you call wondering seizure does she rememeber what she has done? If she doesnt remember they might be complexed partial seizure she is having. I take three different meds at the moment, the one ive noticed most difference from taking is a fairly new med called pregabalin. But not everone is the same so a she might have better luck with another type of med. All the meds have side effects but its better than having so many seizures. There is a lot of stigma attached with epilepsy and it mostly because most people dont understand the condition. Their ignorance about condition leads to fear. Keep an eye on your mother, and make sure she is safe. Also read up on first aid for someone having a seizure what to do and what not to do is vital. It will make both of your lifes much easier. "

" I went for a couple of years having every type of seizure there is, and then some... I was undergoing a real roller coaster for awhile, (all the result of a severe head-injury). I eventually settled into tonic-clonic grand mals (not a good thing). For me, birth control medication stopped my seizures totally (the ONLY thing which did, after about 10 years). I do take a small dose of keppra too, which is necessary (I tried to go without it - no good). However, if you or your loved one with seizures is a woman, consider getting your hormones stabilized. That kind of precludes the possibility of having your own children, but having children while on seizure medication is not so smart anyway. GOOD LUCK!!! "
