my dr. says my seizures are unknown. they have done tests after test and can never even find what might be the cause. i have even had one neuro say i was faking the disorder. i told him you try to bite a piece of your tounge off on purpose i hate biting it just a little bit when i am eating. I have been told that i have grand petit and complex seizures all in one. i was wondering if anyone else has or has had this and if so did they ever figure them out or will i have to deal with them not knowing the rest of my life.

My husband's seizures were always called intractable with no known cause. For 15 years, no one could tell us what the cause was. The MRI's didn't show anything. The eeg's only showed some irregular electrical activity in the left frontal lobe. After his seizures got worse and more frequent, we finally were sent to see an epileptologist at an epilepsy clinic in a major city (MINCEP in Minneapolis). After only one look at his MRI, the doctor said, "Oh, there it is. He has neuronal migration disorder." They removed a good part of the lesion, and he is doing much better now.
(Now they are calling the disorder "cortical dysplasia.") For every doctor who has reached the limit of his/her expertise, there is another one who knows a little bit more. Most of those are in clinics in larger cities. Also, an epileptologist is much more expert than a neurologist. Ours saved my husband's life.
