Recent Storms Cause Danger

Hi Everyone hope this finds everyone happy and healthy.

On Friday the Omaha area was hit by 120 mph winds (the equivalent of a F2 tornado). There was extensive damage and subsequent power outages.

We lost power, we now have power back on but there are areas that are still out and not expected to get power back until Saturday. This is not the first time we have lost power (in 1997 we had an ice storm that put us without power for 10 days!)

The reason for the post is quite simple. To encourage everyone who has allergies and asthma to have a back up action plan. Without my artificial environment (no A/C, dehumidifier, and air filters) my air became quite bad for me rather quickly. The next day I woke up with a bad allergy attack. My husband is quite "handy" and we had a portable power source to power my nebulizer, but nothing else. I ended up at my son's for the day.

I would encourage everyone to do a backup emergency plan for managing your allergies and asthma. Where is a safe place for you to go? How will you power your indoor air purifiers, and other related items? Which ones can you take with you if you need to leave?

Having a plan in place will make you a lot more comfortable and for those of us with severe conditions, safer.

Our weather patterns continue to be weird. If you have questions about what would be appropriate for you contact your doctor or other medical practitioner.

Take Care Everyone. Have a Safe Summer.

Ann

" Although I don't live in an area of many tornadoes, we do get some severe thunderstorms once in a while. Thanks for the advice, Ann. Enjoy your summer! "
