and thought I'd stop in and say hi.

I am a 40 year old mum of two (17 and 20) I have been suffring increasingly with allergies/intolerances since I got pregnant with my first born. It was pretty mild and straightforward back then. I was diagnosed with asthma and I had a couple of skin conditions anyway(keretosis pilaris? and mild psoriasis and eczema)
Now I have all sort of things going on. I find it hard to go out for dinner anywhere because I dont know whether Im gonna suffer the consequences or not. I react mostly to bread and dairy...the two things I crave the most...I also have become increasingly intolerant to chemicals. I have worked through hundreds of different shampoos and conditioners and if I hadnt been intolerant to them initially I grew to become intolerant after a short time. I am now at my wits end.(any natural recipes out there would be greatly appreciated!!) Im also allergic/intollerant to other things too. I havent been to get tested. My asthma nurse says that I would be better off working it out myself! I do know that I am allergic to cats, dust/housedust mite, I wheeze bad if I have down pillows. I get hayfever, various foods and chemicals oh and borage!.
Symptoms are asthma, itchiness, especially arms and throat, headaches/migraines, stomach cramps and vomiting and tiredness...is this all normal? I dont really know anyone else who has allergies apart from my kids and both my brothers have asthma and hayfever but I seem to have come out worse than everyone...arrrghhh

" Hi. You are not alone. I have gone through a lot of what you have and sometimes it gets better on its own and then sometimes it just gets worse.

It has been driving me nuts for years and years -- what did I eat that made me sick? Why do I have hives today? I swear that I believe there is a delayed reaction and the timing is so inconsistent as to drive me bonkers.

So - no this is not normal, but it is what allergies do. "

" After I had my allergy testing done, I found out that if you have a reaction to something while you are pregnant, then you will most likely have an allergic reaction to that in the future. Your body is under a strain when you are pregnant which causes a stronger reaction to those things around you.

I couldn't go near peanut butter while I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I had been practically living off PB&J sandwiches most of my life up until then. Now I have an anaphylaxic reaction if I eat it.

I was told that allergy testing is a guide to what you are most likely allergic to. For example, if the tests say that you are allergic to oranges, but you know that you eat them with no problem, you need to try the elimination diet.

Try http://www.etsy.com for allergen free shampoos and soaps, etc. They have some wonderful and caring shop owners there.

I have asthma, headaches, stomach cramps/diarrhea (from milk), itchy mouth/throat. Everyone's "normal" seems to be different. Makes it hard that way. "

" Hi Rsisland,
Thanks for your response and for the link too, I have had a brief look though but so far I havent seen whether all of the ingredients are 100% natural as its looking like its some of the preservers? Im reacting to too. I have tried similar products in the uk with the Body Shop which has gone the same way as all the others, I was able to use it for longer but still ended up not being able to use it again. Im thinking of trying Lush products next to see how I go with them but as I said it all depends on whether they use anything for preservatives etc...thats why Im after home recipes, then I know what goes into them.
As for the pregnancy thing? thats a possibility though I cannot remember reacting to anything and certainly not a whole bunch of things when I was pregnant with my daughter. I do know that I couldnt actually keep much down throughout my pregnancy due to "morning(ha!!) sickness which lasted all the way up to the birth! "

" Yikes. I'm allergic to bread and dairy too. I never eat it. Except kraft cheese which is lactose free. and occasionally I eat chili contaminated with wheat flour even though I know I shouldn't . I immediately get pain. My allergies are really bad right now. the weather. and they've been bad most of my life. and about the peanut butter, I just really like the taste better than other nut butters and it is supposed to be good for you..but I think I might be slightly allergic to it.
