Hi archaleen I have been doing a lot of research and was diagnosed with sinusitis. What I later found out was it was due to mold but it took five long years and many antibiotics which probably didn't help. From my research I found that most things related to infections of the sinuses is really a fungus infection. Have you tried saline rinses? They helped me a lot and they were not toxic in anyway. Is there any chance you are being exposed to mold?

Sharon - the specialist has got me on steriods at the moment and nasal spray, has said he will move me onto the nasal rinses after surgery as he's said at the moment that its not worth it as there isn't room for it to work.
Also that my nasal sprays have never worked as they can't get in either, but hopefully that will improve after surgery. I also completly changed all my bedding/pillows/duvets etc to allergy free ones and I make sure I dust/vaccum a couple of times a week. I'm hoping and wishing that after surgery I'll feel ten times better, its been such an ongoing thing! NeeNeRNeeNer - crickey! 3 surgeries? Will you have to have them often?

archaleen most doctors don't check to see if your sinus is caused by a fungus infection but most sinus infections ARE caused by fungus infections. Have you tried an anti-fungal medication?

I had a friend who went through two nose surgeries. Apparently the first one worked well enough for him to decide on the second one.
I, on the other hand, opted out of nasal surgery. The ENT told me that they'd break my nose, reset my deviated septum, and scrape my nasal cavity as well as cauterize in places. I was turned off with the "break my nose" thing! I continue to just suffer with chronic sinusitis and not being able to breath out of my nose from all of my allergies. I hope that you do well if you go through with the surgery. Good luck. keep us posted.

I had Sinus Surgery done last year, and I would recommend it from my experience.
I had bilateral Turbinate Reduction and a Septoplasty to fix my deviated septum. The first week after surgery is a PIA, b/c you have splints up your nose, and you can't breathe through your nose...which is normal! But, after the splints come out in 1 week, it's a breath of fresh air! You can BREATHE through your NOSE! It doesn't rid you of your allergies though. And, yes, sometimes repeat surgeries are necessary b/c it doesn't rid you of allergies, and the nose's response to allergies is to enlarge the turbinates...that's how they got that way. The Septoplasty isn't bad, you have to get it realigned so it's not leaning one way into one side of your nasal passages...make it straight. I had very little pain with my surgery...if you have a good surgeon, you should have little pain. I took pain meds the first 1-2 days preventively, but stopped after that, b/c didn't need them! My husband had the same thing done, by a different surgeon, and that surgeon we found out later is a hack job. My husband was in a LOT of pain...he took pain meds the whole week. Plus, he had a different kind of splints in which is probably why...they were HUGE and thicker than mine were. I told my surgeon about my DH's experience, and he had him come sit in his chair, and he looked up his nose! He is eventually going to have to have surgery again sometime...as the surgeon didn't do such a good job. So, try and get referrals from others, if possible, ask questions! Luckily, I got my Surgeon on referral b/c I am a Nurse, and one of my co-worker's boyfriends worked in the OR with the ENT's. So, he told me which one was best! And, he was right! And, that's how I learned the other guy was a hack job after the fact. But, DH started to go see him after a bad ear infection and blown ear drum after a plane ride...he was the first ENT we could get into see. I use the Neil-Med Sinus Rinses. But, if you are congested, you should not use them. It can back up into your ears. You need to have some airflow in your nose to use them! It helps rinse the sinuses out and gets the allergens rinsed out.
