Could i have Endo?

Hi All. I've been struggling with severe abdominal pain for about 6 months now and none of the doctors seem to know whats causing it! I was admitted to hospital in February with what they thought was Pelvic Inflammatory disease because i was in so much pain, but never proved it was that as all the tests and the ultrasound they did came back clear. Since then i have still been in alot of pain, it is mainly on the right hand side just above my hip but spreads out sometimes to my whole abdomin, it gets much worse around my period to the point where i can barely walk and my periods have got much heavier. I saw a consultant a couple of weeks ago who said i might have endo but it was unlikely due to the fact that my pain is continuous and always there, and the pain is only supposed to when your having your period! After reading some of the posts on here i was starting to wonder if she might be wrong in that just because i have the pain all the time it can't be it! So i thought i'd ask you girls who atually have to live with this if you have any advice or if you think i could possibly have it?
Thanks!

" She is definately wrong about that! At times my worst pain is not with my period. The reason for this is the pain is usually caused by a few things...one can be adhesions, sometimes endo can bind organs together with adhesions and the pulling together can cause pain. Most of endo pain is caused by the irritation that endometrial tissue being planted in the abdomen causes. As your body goes thru it's menstrual cycle the changing hormones make the endometrial tissue that has planted itself outside the uterus grow as if it were in the uterus. This can cause pain...and it other symptoms depending where it is (I have endo on my urethra...this causes me to feel like I have to pee all the time). Then when you get your period and the uterine lining sheds...the endo in the abdomen sheds too...but this blood has no where to go so it can reimplant on other places in the abdomen. So your Dr is very wrong...you can have pain in varying degrees in all kinds of places at all times of your cycle with Endo. I think that if you feel it's possible that you have endo that you should definately seek another opinion. And do not get discouraged! Endo can take a very long time to diagnose and the only 100% way right now to diagnose it is thru a noninvasive surgery called a laparoscopy. So don't let someone do an ultrasound and tell you you don't have it...it can not be detected that way. Sometimes if there are large enough masses of it it can be seen on ultrasound...but sometimes there are not large enough masses to be seen. Good luck!!! And I am always here if you need someone to talk to!! "

" It could definitely be endo and Christine is right, I also have right sided abdomen pain and it can come at any time, but it worse at my period. They insisted I didn't have endo because my period were kind of regular and never too heavy. They did 10000 ultrasounds, all of which showed nothing as well - but endo is NOT viewable on an ultrasound. The ONLY way you can see it is in surgery usually. Your dr. has very bad information and I would suggest asking to get a good gynecologist, one who has treated endo before. Write a list of your symptoms for the new dr. and include any that you think are not related - stomach, joints, headaches etc. etc. The only way to know if you have endo is laparoscopic surgery, so again, don't let them say 'you don't' unless they actually know.
The symptoms of endo are widespread and can affect all of your body at any time of the month, so once you get a good dr., they will understand that and know how to help you. That said, there are a LOT of diseases/problems that cause pelvic pain, so don't give up until they give you an answer!
Good luck and I hope you feel better!!! "

" In my opinion, female doctors are not as understanding as male doctors. I had several female doctors who acted like i should just suck it up so to speak. I had raging endo and it was everywhere and it hurt all the time, worse after my period started because the adhesions bleed every cycle. It's like it forms scab after scab with each cycle.

The only way they can diagnose this is to do a laproscope.

Good Luck and Keep us posted. "
