I've had eczema on and off for years.

I'm sort of a "grin and bear it" type of person, so I don't often seek out treatment, but I'm having a particularly nasty bout on my fingers. It's been pretty bad since about April. I've tried using several steroid cremes, but nothing seems to help.

Im currently using a steroid cream twice a day with bandaids on all the fingertips and trying to avoid soap, water, anything that might be irritating. It has stabilized, but it's intensely annoying and painful when I touch things without bandaids on. Also, I'm spending an obscene amount of money on bandaids.

I guess I'm nervous because I'm taking off to south east Asia in a week and I'll be in fairly rural areas. I'm nervous that I won't be able to take very good care of my hands and that things will get worse.

I've tried cutting out dairy from my diet and that didn't make a difference. I'm thinking about trying the wheat thing, but I'm also in recovery from an eating disorder and playing with rules around food is a pretty bad idea for me.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions to get this somewhat under control?

Thanks

" Hi,

Hands are really difficult to heal because of the constant contact with water etc. The only method I know is to get a good, thick, waxy handcream, one made of beeswax is best, and just keep applying it to protect the skin. You can try putting the steroid cream on first, but the important thing is to keep applying the wax to prevent the skin from drying out. It takes about a week to heal the fingers, but you have to keep doing it while the new layers of skin strengthen. I think licking the skin helps too. "

" I use Clobetasol Propionate cream. Have been ever since I was diagnosed. It seems to keep in under control when I use properly. "
