I have taken my daugher all over the state to many different physicians. I can manage the atopic eczema on her body well enough. However, I am very worried about her eyes. She is Asian, and we, her parents, are not. The skin surrounding her eyes will get so red and sore with scaling. The first physician put her on a medication that worked great until I took her off it, and it came right back. I cannot remember the name of it, but when I went to another doctor, she was very upset saying it causes blindness in children with prolonged use (and by this time, it was prolonged). She said to go to a dermatologist. The dermatologist prescribed a steroid (again, name escapes me), which all the literature that came with it said not to use around eyes. It helped, but the problem never went away. I went for a simple check-up with her pediatrician, and he was very upset about the steroid around her eyes and put her on Elidil. We have been using Elidil for a couple months now around her eyes, and it isn't really helping, but I read that causes cancer and shouldn't be used for eyes. I'm at a loss what to do for her. I am wondering if she is allergic to the shampoo (Dove). The physicians all tell me that is okay, but her eyes do seem to get worse following washing and conditioning of her hair. I have looked unsuccessfully for a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner that is for sensitive skin. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. My daughter has been having this problem now for a year with her beautiful eyes, and it is killing me to put her through this. She is from Southern China, and her dermatologist told me that this kind of eczema is very common in that region.
If anyone can help me, I would be so appreciative. Thank you! San Posted on 09/27/07, 09:09 pm |

Stop using soap because it's the worst thing for eczema. Shampoo is OK if the scalp is not sore, otherwise just shampoo once every few days. Bath her in saltwater and Oilatum oil instead of soap.
Meanwhile find a bland, perfume-free moisturizer like Oilatum or Dermaveen (the Oatmeal one is good) and apply it three times a day. For sensitive areas like the eyes use vaseline. Also, ignore all the miracle cures because they're all a big con.

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your little girl! It must be awful. I have had problems with my eyes before, if you worried about her shampoo, i think you should try using T-gel. I use this and its wonderful, I also have sometimes had it bad in my hair and this clears it up. I also sometimes use optrix eye drops. this helps prevent swelling of the eyes. I think you should try just using mostirisour on the eys, as that helped me, and is also not likely to have any dangerous side affects.

Stop the Dove Soap Immediately and Read On................. Treatment for Eczema requires protecting the skin to maintain the skins acid mantle. Maintaining the skins protective barrier (acid mantle) is critical to significantly improving the physical symptoms of eczema. The skin (our bodies largest organ) plays a critical role in the maintenance of our overall well-being and health. The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film on the surface of the skin which acts as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin.
Breakdown of the acid mantle occurs when products that are not pH correct are applied on the skins surface. Skin has a pH value that falls somewhere between 4.5 and 6. Therefore it is crucial when dealing with eczema to use products that are pH correct (having a pH which falls between 4.5 and 6). Most readily available products are pH balanced which means having a pH range of 7, this pH range can irritate and disturb the skins acid mantle. One of the worst offenders to breaking down the acid mantle is ordinary soap. Soaps pH range falls between a 9-11 which creates high alkaline levels and allows for the growth of bacteria. Moisturizing the skin contributes to one of the most important self care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Again, a moisturizer that maintains a pH correct range of between 4.5 and 6 should be used. Those suffering from eczema should search out moisturizers that are natural or botanically based instead of chemically based. These moisturizers use essential oils from nature that are known to nourish and protect the skin from the environment. Chemically based products can irritate the skin and worsen the condition. Eczema sufferers need to look for products that do not contain mineral oil or petrolatum, these ingredients are occlusive, clog pores and interferes with the skins basic function which is to release toxins and absorb nutrients. The use of products that do not contain known irritants such as dyes and fragrances is also highly recommended. Good Skincare Products make a difference The implementation of natural based skincare products that incorporate a correct pH range that protects the skins acid mantle, is free of known toxins, and does not contain occlusive ingredients show significant improvement in the treatment and even the elimination of eczema. People who have suffered from eczema for years have seen it vanish almost over night after implementing this simple approach. Sufferers are able to regain their social activities and their self esteem and quality of life greatly improves. For more information or questions please contact me. I would love to hear from you regarding your daughter. Best wishes, Maureen

YES I CAN. I have a son under 4 years old and this WORKED for him. I added GNC:Digestive Health Program powder 1/4 teaspoon to his 8 oz juice or milk 3 times a day.
You might want to read the following link. It speaks of a correlation between skin and GI Track health(balance of good bacteria and digestive enzymes).PRObiotics are very good for both. I had my son try GNC: Digestive Health Powder which has Porbiotics, Prebioticcs AND Digestive Enzymes. I could NOT beleive it within 3 days I seen about 75% reduction in redness and some spots were gone. It has continued to clear up. It was much better than the lotion that just treated the symptom this treats the root problem. http://findarticles.com/p/articles... My son's eczema is almost gone! I only used probiotics for 4-5 days. I am going to switch to Bifidobacterium infantis since he is younger and I found out the good bateria in kids under 4 is different than those over 4yr-100yrs.
Good Luck

****PROBIOTICS ****
Ezema is your body's inability to retain moisture in the skin. It leads to dry patches on your skin that itch. It usually gets worse in the heat.. so a hot shower, sweating (internal heat) make it worse. If you are diagnosed with this 9 to 10 the doctor will just say to use lotion and maybe take Vitamin D which are both good to do. However, if you have eczema then you may want to read the below articles and take PRObiotics. Unlike lotions that treat the symptom Probiotics treat one of the root causes, lack of nutrients because your body is not breaking down/absorbing vitamins in your food. Probiotics help break down and absorb your food better so you get more nutrients going to all your organs... your skin being the largest and needing more nutrients stays healthier. It cleared up 80% of my son's eczema within a week!!! It has been over a month now and it is about 90% cleared up! Note I did not get this info from a doctor I just had to do all the research on my own. HOPE this helps PS Let me know if it worked for you http://www.vitaminwarehouse.com/sh... LIFE START Natren is a Probiotic designed specifically for infants. It's made from Bifidobacterium infantis, the friendly bacteria most prominent in infants. Hi San,
I have a 3 year old son who has had atopic dermitis only on his face since he was about 6 months old. The last few months it had gotten extremely bad around his eyes similar to your daughter. I also had been given the same prescription over and over by the dermatologist and he became immune to those steroids. I tried David Hoskings Hypoallergenic Face and Body Balm for Infants which I just came across online. I was very skeptical but was also desperate. I SAW IMPROVEMENTS IN 3 DAYS and it was completely cleared up in 2 weeks. To this day, I am completely amazed and so happy that this worked. It is all natural - it even says it's safe to eat?? I know different things work for different people, but I really feel compelled to share this information, especially with parents of children with the same problem - although it does say it works for adults as well. It is made in Australia, but I am in the US and they shipped it to me - no problem. Just wanted to share this option with you - I can schedule pictures again and there are no more stares or questions from strangers, plus he starts pre-school next fall and I am so relieved something works!! Sincerely, Angie
