Punishment for Ice Cream

EDs' distorted thoughts, not ours. I am learning the difference, what is reality, and what is not.
This is an example of ED distorting my thoughts. It is a true story:

I recently took my kids to Coldstone creamery, I had never been. We got our ice cream, and left. As I was pulling out, boom, a car hit me. My first thought, was I knew I shouldn't of got ice cream. This was my punishment for getting ice cream. I was angry, and instantly was pissed, ranting in my mind.. This is a f-ing expensive ice cream, I knew we should of just went home. Now, I had to get rid of the ice cream. But how? As we sat and waited for the police, I had time to think a bit. And thought this is f-ing stupid. My car did not get hit, because of ice cream, it just happened.. As I sat their thinking of how stupid, and that it was ED distorting my thoughts. I remembered all the times my daughter has asked me, (when we are in a strip mall)does she have to buckle, just to drive a bit. I always say yes, you have to buckle. I turned to my daughter, and said this is why you always have to wear a seatbelt. You never know when you can get in a accident, it does not matter how far you are going.. That is what I took from that.. A life lesson, for me and my daughter.. Not punishment for ice cream. You tell me if that is rational thinking, you can't it is ED. These are things we need to be aware of.. May blessings find you..

" Well done for recognizing your negative thinking and turning it round! Your right, it didn't happen as some otherworldy punishment, it's just ED telling you that. Good on you for setting him straight! "

" This is how people with eating disorders think, they blame themselves for things they have no control over and you just happened to have food in the situation! Would you still have blamed yourself if you had not had food? Very interesting isnt it? "

" I am so sorry to hear about the accident! I hope you are all ok! Thank you for sharing this story with us. I can relate SO much... two weeks ago when my wallet and camera got stolen my immediate thought was it was because i ate chocolate and because i wanted to look thin... again i realize in my rational mind this makes no sense, but it was the thought that first popped in my head and kept reoccurring! I am so glad though that you are fighting the ed thoughts and you are so right to focus instead on the health and safety of you and your daughter! She is lucky to have you! "

" I think we try hard to make sense of this world we live in. We are so used to blaming someone or something that our minds take us to the possibilities. With ED we blame ourselves for our "weakness". Without it we blame it on our own stupidity. I think people with EDs just automatically assume they are at fault somehow. We are very sensitive people and are used to accepting blame. Sometimes I wish I could be like my husband and always assign blame to someone else. But that's just not me. "
