" I have done it some, but it's hard for me to do because I read when I eat and forget to spit. I think it's fairly common with ED folks. "

" I sort of do it... like when i am craving an unsafe food i will lick it but not eat it.. i expecially do this with salty foods when i know I have a docs appointment coming up so i will retain water and have a greater doc happier number on the scale, "

" I've done it multiple times while at work. The bad thing with doing that it is the same mentality of bingeing/purging- you inhale the food without even tasting it, and then spit it out, not giving your body the satisfaction of that food.

I know how hard it is to stop, but maybe start off swallowing your last bite of the food you are chewing and spitting. Allow yourself that one bite, chew it slowly, swallow, savour, and take a deep breath.

I'll pray for you, girl. "

" I'm not bulimic but I have thought about doing it from stopping myself from bingeing as I go through HELL after a binge.
I've never tried it though because when ever I've had to spit out food before (before I was ill) it makes me heave so it's kinda put me off.

" This may not sound good, but I would actually rather purge it all than spit it out, but I have no gag reflex...believe me I have tried. I just dont know how to stop myself. Its like, I cant wait to be home alone because then I can raid the cabinets and put as much as I can in my mouth just to spit it all out. Sometimes I know I swallow it, so then I start to think about how much time I should spend at the gym.
Dont get me wrong, I do eat, infact I am slightly overweight, which is why this is such a problem because I dont look like how I used to when I was anorexic, now I look fat and I feel like the only way I can get anyone to pay attention to me is if I am thin again. "

" I'm looking at it from how I would think so I don't know if this is how you see things.
Either it could be that you feel better purging than 'chew and spit' because it's a more 'forceful action'? You eat it - then get rid of it completely. 'Chew and Spit' might not give you that sense of relief. Over all though (I'm not telling you it's OK at all) but if you feel like you really HAVE to binge, over all 'chew and spit' is better for your health. Purging can do a lot of damage which I'm sure your aware of.

The other reason may may be a case of guilt? I think I'd feel more guilty with chew and spit' because I'd see it as a waste of my families food. Purging required you to actually EAT the food - then you can get rid of it. That's just how I see things though.

" o crap! i just went to the store and being surrounded by all that food made me really anxious! I ended up buying cookie dough and forcing it in my mouth as quick as i could in my car, then spit it all out into a tupperware that I keep in my car (just in case of emergencies like these)...now i am wondering how much i ate and if i should go back to the gym :( "

" Msfhka-

I thought I was the only person who did that. In fact I thought I was so clever that I had come up with my own ED. I thought I was beating the harmful effects of purging and not gaining any of the calories from swallowing. Unfortunately chewing and spitting does retain calories and bloating. Its also very dangerous for your mouth, gums, and teeth. Its very addictive and hard to stop. One sweet and then you're hooked for the day. I know how it feels and I am here for you 100%. Please feel free to message me as its hard to find people like us.

xoxo "
