How does it feel?

I have a 14yr old son with dyspraxia. I know he struggles with some things, but also he is a teenager. I ask him if he is ok and how is doing with school etc and he just says he is ok.
But how is he really feeling.
Sometimes i wonder if somethings he does is because he is a teenager, like the mess he makes, and the terified look in his eyes when i ask him to tidy up his mess! Even tho i dont shout or talk angrily, he just always loolks terrified, deer caught in the headlights look i call it.
I am patient with him, and i am just getting my head around this dyspraxia thing as he was only diagnosed at 11!

He had an obsession with thomas the tank until he was about 12, now his obsession is Roller coasters. He can play double bass and electric guitar, which he is self taught at!

I know he has problems organising things like his homework, and his school bag. I buy him new pencil cases with contents and the contents are all gone after about 4-5 weeks.
What can i do to help him with his organisational skills?
What things is he and will he be having problems with. He tells me he has no problems, but i think he does have some. He is a lovely sensitive boy, very loving, very funny, and very intelligent.
I just want to know what he is going through and feeling so i can help him and understand him

" He did manage to lose 2 coats and a shoe in the first 8 weeks of senior school lol!
I understand about teachers and numbers of pupils. What i dont quite get is that they seem to forget my son has dyspraxia, until i mention it to them every parents evening!
Then i have to explain to them again why he has not handed in homework, as he lost the homeowrk info sheet between being given it and getting home, and that in his homework planner all he managed to write down was eg..homework for the 23rd, but hadnt written what subject or what to do!
The the SENCo decides the teachers have to write in his planner for himn what his homework is, and this gets done for about 2 weeks but only by about 2-3 of his teachers, then it gets forgotten about.
I just dont get it really. I do my best to keep in touch with the school, but i feel like they think i am being a nusance when all i want is my son getting the things he needs!
Not having a go hun, just explaining how it is here "

" You have a go Debbie by all means. The reason I started the website is becxause no one understood me or my son. I was trying to make you understand that children also have a big problem. Fortunately because I have made such a fuss in school and also written a book to help people, our whole school is aware of dyspraxia. Even the cook and dinner ladies. I appologise as I have taken for granted that all schools are the same. Ignorance is one of the most difficult problem to overcome. I hope you buy my book and give it to all the staff and they read how it affects children and the difficulties they have, but with Mums like you he must be very lucky. "

" I only found out about my having dyspraxia, 9 monthes ago. Life sure makes more sense now. But anyway, I think it has to start with your son, he has to want to be more organized before he will improve. I personally like lists. I have a list, I check my list I try to follow it. With note taking and remembering my homework assignments I have found that if my profesor writes it or posts it then taking a picture with a digital camera is the best way for me not to lose it. but I often call classates or email the professor to get some help.

I have struggle to be organized and nothing has, as of yet, stuck. the computer helps me a lot because it is an organized machine, but I as a person still have to initiate the input of information. "

" On Tuesday I have been asked to speak at a college about Dyspraxia, I stuggle with giving information for older children even though my own son is now grown up things have changed. I work with young junior/infant/nursery children so I love to here how adults and teenagers cope. I am over 40 myself and I use lists all the timeas I am sure many people do. Your advice was very helpful, and if any others have useful information, that would be great. "
