My granddaughter is dyslexic and her teachers kept insisting that she is adhd. We did a Hawthrone and the doctor diagnosed her with adhd and prescribed medication well she was talking ninety to nothing throwing up did not go to sleep until 4:00 am. I do not think she is adhd. What I need to know is if some of the symptoms of dyslexia are similar to adhd and if it is possible that maybe add is synononamous with dyslexia.

" I'm afraid I don't know much about this kinda thing at all cindayne. I do know tho that people who are dyslexic have a shorter concentration span because our brains have to work twice as hard as other peoples basically!!! So maybe thats part of the reason your granddaughters teachers think she has add??? She may have a real problem understanding aural instructions and remembering them because of short term memory problems, so they might think that she's distracted and fidgety when actually she's struggling with keeping up.

I don't know tho! I could be going on completely the wrong track!! It could just be that you need to give your granddaughter time to get used to her medication and it is making a difference.
Let me know iff I can be any more help xxx "

" musicblonde thank you for your reply and I think you are right I think it is her concentration and short term memory that makes them think she is adhd. she is not hyperactive at all but she does have trouble with concentration. It was a nightmare when she took the medicine cause she was so hyped up. Her mother is adhd but not dyslexic. And her mother is calmer when she takes her medicine but my granddaughter was not. "

" thats interesting!! I think maybe that kinda proves she's not got adhd then if her mum has it and her medication works completely differently. But it may just be it needs time to kick in and you should be patient. I have no idea tho!

I always find consentration gets much worse when your tired too, so maybe that might be another reason contributing to her difficultys. Make sure she's getting plenty of sleep and taking lots of vitamins to keep her brain power going! Thats what my mum always used to tell me anyways :D xxx "

" I do wish you all the best with this - I am dyslexic, but spatially, and with numbers, dyscalculia....was diagnosed in my thirties - recently informally diagnosed with ADD, wish this had been years ago as a lot of school problems would have been helped. Interesting what musicblonde said about the short concentration span being because of the fact that dyslexics are having to think so hard - I hadnt thought about that, but it IS just so true. I was always hyper at school and naughty and away with the fairies. Sounds not good at all that she became hyper, obviously not suiting her - maybe many people are borderline do you think? but not nearly enough for medication....do hope all goes well for you....Cathrynn X "

" I know just what you are saying. I am dyslexic but when I was young, my mom had me tested. They told her I had ADD. They gave me meds, they worked and my grades got better. What did worry my mom is there were no long term studies on this. She would not have me take it on the weekends and over summer holiday. Much latter when I was in Jr. High mom once agian had me tested but this time just for Dyslexia. The doc said Yes she most certenly does. With that my mom did what she does best. Wanting to know every thing about it, which she told me so I learn too. Yes, most people with Dyxlexia are most commenly misdaignosted whe ADD or ADHD. "
