I'm reading a book about a lady with a type of Autism. I'm noticing that I share some similarities with her . My teacher ( who also read That book)
says that Dyslexics can share some symptoms with Autism. She thinks in pictures too hence the name and I seem to get distracted by smells, little noises, and lots of movement makes it hard to concentrate. What do you think? I just want a idea, and to know some one else out their too thinks the same way I do.

" I am not dyslexic but my granddaughter is. I also work with children in a preschool and from what I understand from my training dyslexia and autism are related and if there is dyslexia in your family there is a possibility there will be autism. I know some of the traits of autism are close to some in dyslexics but I am not sure about which ones only that dyxlexics and autisics both think in pictures. "

" I think this is true!! We can appear to have similar symptums to autism.

Because we have a smaller concentration span then other people (coz our brains have to work twice as hard!) we can get easily distracted by things. Lots of movement is very distracting I think because its using another sense aswell as your hearing one when your listening to someone, or a different one from when your reading so your brain gets confused and pays attention to the confusing thing instead!!! Thats my theory anyway...... don't know if that makes any sense at all!!

Do autistics have problems putting thoughts into words too??? coz that could be another symptum we share....... finding the right words to express ourselves! We deffinately both think in pictures anyway- that ones right! xx "

" I am not sure how it was when I was younger but I know that this is so with me now. I have always been very easily distracted, but when I was younger and with young children, I could shut off from noises, screams and things!! I still strangely enough can put a sort of block on myself and tune out childrens noise. I find this much more difficult since I became older and for many years have become very disorientated and dizzy, unsteady if there is too much going on. I wonder if others feel that as well?

take care...Cathrynn X "

" There is definately a connection. I am dyslexic, my son shows dyslexic symptoms and I have a nephew who has autisum.

I recently read that there is a cluster of conditions including:

dyslexia
autisum
ADD
and bipolar

which are somehow related. "
