Punctal Plugs

Wondered what kind of success anyone has had with punctal plugs? Have been reading about them. Have had dry eyes for a few weeks now with very little relief and am looking toward the future; also am curious to know how people cope with this dry eye problem. I think about it almost constantly as the many drops I've tried just do not help. Only relief is for a couple hours in the morning after the nighttime Refresh ointment i.e. vaseline for the eyes. Thanks.

" Many people benefit from punctal plugs. Please do some research on the different types and the risks they bear though. The safest are generally the ones that sit in the top of the puncta (rather than those placed all the way in the channels) but they are not always the most comfortable.

Also, check out other treatments. Plugs and drops are the first line of treatment but depending on the cause of your dry eyes may simply not be enough. "

" Nursesteph - Punctal plugs are tiny plugs usually made of silicone which are placed in the "drains" through which excess tears exit the eyes. You have 4 drains of this kind - 2 lower, 2 upper, in the corners of your eyes near your nose. Most people who get plugs have them placed in the lower drains only, some in all 4. Plugs are usually most appropriate when your dry eyes are from insufficient watery tears as opposed to a poor quality tear film from lack of oil. "

" I have tried drops and the like, and I have plugs now. They discovered that no matter what drop they used, all moisture filted through my tear ducts as quickly as it was produced. I also have chronic allergy conjunctivities (the worse my specialist's ever seen), so consider getting tested for that. "
