Hello My name is Sheila I just gave birth to a beautiful baby Boy with Down Syndrome. He's been in the hospital for a week now because he was not feeding properly. He's having a problem sucking and drinking. His stomach got alittle big and they did some testing but the results came back negative, they were making sure his Digestive tract was ok. I was just wondering if any mothers went through this when they had their babies and what was the outcome?

" Well Emma stayed in the NICU for about a week, she had feeding problems but we solved that by giving her a bottle with a latex, not silicon, nipple. It was easier for her to latch on to. He tounge still pushes the bottle around at times, but she picked up feeding alot quicker. We didnt even try to breast feed though, because she was doing well with the bottle--dont mess with a good thing-- We've had all kinds of tests done, some come back positive one month and negative the next. DOnt be surprised if his little body takes a while to regulate. "

" Katie was in special care for 4 weeks.Katie didn't take to the bottle at all. She has been fed with a feeding tube ever since she was born even though we have tried every teat avaliable. She's just year old and still has the tube for her milk but can manage puree's.Were taking it slowly and have started trying her with a cup.Just take things slowly with her, she'll get there in the end. If you need anything just ask. "

" Hi Sheila, congratulations on your new little angel! I`m pretty sure I know how you are feeling right about now, but just know you are blessed! I can`t say that I know about feeding problems because Adia breastfeeds like a champ, but I do know that I had to fight tooth and nail in the NICU to for the time we needed to learn.Don`t let the nurses discourage you from taking all the time you need to help your baby learn to feed.Whether it`s breast or bottlefeeding, just be consistent and very patient. One thing I`m learning is with theses precious little ones, some things just require a little time. Don`t get discouraged, he`ll get it. "

" The nurses at the hospital when Michael was born just said he would not be able to feed. He wouldn't be able to suck, I nursed my first son and I pumped for a year with Michael and bottle fed. I ended up using a Nipple that looked like a pacifier turned the wrong way! I don't know why it worked and we tried to turn it around and he would just flip it back. DO Not get discouraged, It took me about a week to realize he needed something a little different to feed better, I own every bottle made and he drank great after that. Michael has the big belly, as I told you and as does youngest daughter without DS! They are two peas in a pod. so take the testing as it come, but don't worry every child is different and all four of mine had different bottles, breastfed differently, why I don't know, but it comes to them. They were also latex, for some reason he could latch on better to the nipple. I hope he comes home soon. Thoughts and prayers.

Its really hard leaving your baby in hospital and going home, i was really upset, but you will get him home soon im sure.Lowenna was in for 2 and a half weeks because of feeding probs. We took her home with a feeding tube and slowly but surely got her breastfeeding. We tried with a bottle and allsorts of teets but she wouldnt go for them, just keep trying, you will get there in the end breast or bottle. Enjoy being with him he looks gorgeous! "
