So Emma is 10 months and not even a sign of a tooth. By the time my boys were 9 months they had all 8 teeth and were eating pert near anything. Emma is eating #3 baby food and gags if it has the little chunks of carrots or pasta. Is this pretty average for DS kids? The dentist said that I shouldnt expect teeth until 12-15 months. Am I really going to be feeding a one year old pureed foods? Her low tone makes it hard for her to really clamp down and gum things, we're working on that but I was just wondering if this is normal?

" my katie is 14 months old. She's still on pureed food. She has no teeth either. Been told by her dietian to try lumpy food slowly and to let her take her time. But not to rush her and let her stay on pureed food if thats what she can manage. She still has to be fed her milk by tube as she can't suck and takes to much from a cup. Dont worry with ds children you have to just take your time. "

" Hi,
Yes it is common for DS children to get their teeth late. Can she pick up and gum on cherrios. This is good practice for chewing and swallowing as well as fine motor skills if she can handle eating a small piece of cereal. When my son was small we would put him in a walker and give him a few pieces at a time. He loved them. "

" Kimber also didn't eat alot of food till she got her teeth in and I think she was about a 1 old when she got her bottom teeth in, he mom had teeth at 2mos so that was kind of weird..She is going to be 2 in June and just got her top two teeth in a couple of months ago...We also tried giving her like small pieces of food like banana's and other things that you can cut up small..with her tongue thrusting she had problems choking on stuff too..I do know of alittle one that is 2 and still won't eat any kind of solids she still feeds him the #3's so don't get worried as long as they are gettin their calories and gaining weight...This all takes time in these little ones like the crawling and walking some do things ealier than others and some have alot of sensory issues too so hang in there this too shall pass...Good luck and try to find a peditrician that understand Down Sydrome that helps too... " have no fear -- I have 6 kids and 3 of them got their teeth after 14 months and these were "typical" kids my DS son got his teeth at 13 months -- so we're just a bunch of late teethers -- I don't think it's the DS per se -- just regular ole genetics -- there is this great thing they sell at Target, though, that is like a mesh sack that you can put fruit items and such in (watermelon works great) and then the kid chews on this sack and it purees the food as they gum it and they get the food -- and you're not sitting feeding with a spoon -- it really helped my son with his tone from the constant exercise "
