I found a journal article talking about the relationship between autonomic dysfunction and vertigo. It really hit home with me because I didn't realize that so many of my previous diagnoses all fall under the category of autonomic dysfunction (including a low blood pressure condition called neurally mediated hypotension, mitral valve prolapse, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc) or that vertigo could be a symptom as well. The study was done by an ENT who found that some of his Meniere's patients actually got worse when they were treated with a low salt diet (which mine did as well). He found that treating these patients with things like a high salt diet and medications that increase blood pressure resolved their vertigo. I thought I'd pass it along in case anyone else in this group also has low blood pressure or other autonomic dysfunction symptoms. I don't know if it might help...

I think you might be talking adrenal insufficiency stuff here. I have adrenal insufficiency and I take hydrocortisone on a daily basis. During times of stress I have to take more. Adrenal insufficiency (your body doesn't produce enough cortisol - the fight or flight hormone - without it you die) is associated with low blood pressure, salt craving, dizziness as well as nausea and abdominal pain and lack of appetite. Most doctors don't know to check for it and it nearly drove me nuts that they couldn't find anything wrong. Many tests of my cortisol came back normal but in the end it was getting progressively worse. Adrenal Insufficiency can be caused by a severe infection, too many steroids, a tumor or an infiltration disease which is what I have. Depending on the cause it is very treatable but left untreated it can result in death. I hope this helps.
